Brother Intellifax 4100

It dials but I keep getting Busy/No Response.  I get no screeching noise at all.  I made sure the display with green lights on the top right of the readout reads "Fax" Should I have another setting?

Machine scans fax but then says "busy/no response"

try putting your paper in, pick up the handset and dial the fax number, if it rings, you can press send, but if there is a problem with the phone line you will know. Be sure the phone cord is plugged into the LINE jack and not the TEL. If you can get through manually and the phone line seems ok, there may be a problem with the NCU circuit board.

First plug in a normal tone tellefone into the wall jack that your fax is using.Make sure you get the fax signal from the faxnumbers you struggling with.If you can hear any line noises on the line it may be the problem why you cant get a fax trough.Make sure your fax is set on the correct county code-tone or pulse.

First the link to the manual

http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_IntelliFax_4100e_EN_250.PDF

The date and time are set up under general set up. Under that menu there is also TONE/PULSE dial mode setting if you have accidently changed this to pulse it will cause issue. Change it to tone if you have and this will resolve the problem. Pulse is the old style phone system.

Can't send out fax

Make sure the phone cord is connected to fax machine in the place marked LINE, then make sure the phone cord is connected to the wall jack. Pick up your handset and make sure you have a clear dial tone also. If you are dialing long distance make sure you have the long distance service.

Sending Faxes

This could be a cable fault. Get BT to do a line test for you (this is free). If that is OK, change the telephone cable. Perhaps this is on an extention cable? Remove it.
