Just above the paper slot there is a flap that opens, The cartidges go in there,

How do I clean the print heads on my Photosmart

The self-clean cycle of the cartridges can be accessed from the LCD or the software on your computer.

To manually cleaning the cartridges:
Remove the cartridge from the printer. Dip a cotton swab in distilled water and squeeze out any excess water. While holding the cartridge by its top, wipe off the face and edges of the cartridge. Do not wipe the nozzle plate (that could damage the cartridge). Replace the cartridge in the printer. Please note: if the cartridge is out of the printer for more than 30 minutes, the ink could start to dry out and not be usable.

The print heads are part of the cartridge.

Well, I'd say you are out of luck. If you follow the following link, you'll see that this printer does not have any Vista drivers:

This is one of the really neat features of Vista--it's great for the hardware industry, 'cause so much stuff is not supported.
An alternative is to Google something like "HP Photosmart 1215 Vista drivers." You may come up with some 3rd party drivers that will work.

Hello,
Your other option is to download the driver from the HP website. Here is the link: PS1215Driver.

Choose your computer's operating system and then download the driver file that it provides.

I solved it! I bought a new Epson 3 in 1. Funny thing; I have a "FREE FER TAKEN" box just inside my shop, people come in all the time to check it. I put 3 HP ink jet printers in there almost a year ago and nobody wants them.

1215 hp photosmart printer won't print in color. put in new cartridge and uninstalled it, didn't help
