SOURCE: Keewood Protalk 2 way radio xls receives , but doesn't transmit

Agent Ken is right, 2-ways do use a lot of power just to transmit. But the battery isn't the only problem, nor is the programming, it is the manufacturer. Kenwood makes respectable 2-way radios, but I've never been a fan of them, if you want powerful transmit and better range, I'd recommend you use Midland 2-ways. They're much more reliable and way more powerful. As an expert in radio communications, I'd have to say that Midland is you ticket to a better radio.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Programming Software for Kenwood TK-3130 Protalk XLS Radio

The software is only availible from Kenwood. the only way to get it is to purchase the registration key from them for that software. Sorry, I program radios everyday and even the company I work for has to purchase the Registration keys.

I need to know what replacement antenna to get for my tk-3130

I found the manuals at:
http://www.hitechwireless.com/products/Kenwood-TK%252d3130-ProTalk-XLS.html

This radio is a UHF radio but it doesn't saw on the site what the frequencies are or the type of antenna connection, BNC, SMA, ?
The manual shows 464.5 MHz to 467.925 MHz so an antenna for 464 - 468 MHz would do.

Manual also at: http://kenwoodusa.com/
Contact form at: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Contact/
See if they have a replacement antenna for you.

It radio was given my store from another branch that was closing. And it has a lock on it. I need to remove the lock so I can change the frequency to match the rest of the radios at my store.

Unless you want to go to the expense of buying a programming cable and the software, take it to a dealer/shop and have them program it. It's illegal for you to program a commercial radio.

Keewood Protalk 2 way radio xls receives , but doesn't transmit

Hello jf1111,

It could be a low battery. Does the screen go completely blank when you attempt to transmit? Two way radios draw a lot more power when transmitting then when receiving so a low battery might cause the radio to cut out when you press the Push-to-Talk and then the radios might appear to turn back on when you release the PTT. If this behavior persists even after charging the battery then the battery or charger (or both) might be defective.

If the battery isn't the issue then the radio could be programmed incorrectly. Does the problem occur on all channels or just one? The Kenwood ProTalk requires dealer programming with a software kit to set the frequencies for each channel. A channel that is programmed for an out of bounds frequencies would generate an error when the PTT is pressed. You might need to have the programming checked out by your local Kenwood Two-Way radio shop.

Best Regards,
Ken

Not sure I understand what you want. If you need to buy some new batteries, do a google search. They're available at many sites....

Keylock

Hin, On most new models of Kenwood two-way radios, the user can lock the MENU and up/down buttons. To lock/unlock, press on the menu button (a second or 2) until you hear a beep or till the lock icon in the display appear/disappear. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
