It comes when Disk not being recognized. I had the same camera before. You need to use good quality CDRs or CD-RWs. Usually Sony Mavica disks best with that camera. Maybe you cannot find Mavica in market then go for Sony, Philips, Imation miniCDR/W. also keep the lens of the internal CD writer clean. If you need further assistance please post your question

Good Luck

I have Mavica CD-350. All of a sudden when I attempt to format a new disc or re-format over an old one, the format process gets to the end and then beeps with the message "format error" After...

The camera may display a FORMAT ERROR if the inserted media is not formatted or if the media was formatted on a computer. This error may also display if the inserted media is not supported by the camera.
Please make sure that you're using either CD -R disc which does not require formatting or CD -RW disc.
If you're using any other discs like CD +RW, CD+R may arise the error message.
If the issue persists with a new different CD -R disc, service may be required for the Camera.

I have a sony and I have taken some pic's and when I try to delete the pic's I have already taken it its igving me a "format error with what looks like a battery flashing and a C: 13.01. Please help...

If you have already copied the pics to your computer or simply don't want them, you can format the card using the function in the camera's setup menus. This will delete everything on the card, and should fix any problem with the card's format.

Sony DCR DVD101 Format Error

I had the same problem, but I didn't have any valueable data on the DVD-RW (which was a Sony brand disc, go figure...). So, I backed up all the videos on the disc, tried to format the disc to get it ready to be able to be used again, and got the whole "Access Error" when I was formatting the disc. I tried both the VR and Video format options, the Video option came back with teh "Access Error" while the VR option came back with "Format Error". I put the disc into my DVD burner in my computer and was going to try and format it manually. But, as the disc popped up in My Computer and I right-clicked on the disc icon, there were no options to format the disc, which is unusual. I tried it in a laptop that's about a year old (versus the other computer which was about 4 years old), and as I right-clicked on the disc, an option was entitled "Erase this CD-RW". Obviously this was not a CD-RW, but I tried it anyways, and bam, after about half a minute, the mini DVD-RW was formatted! After that, I put it in the Handycam DCR DVD101 drive, formatted it using the Video setting (my preference), and now it works.

So, moral of the story is...try and format the disc manually on a DVD burning enabled computer. If it doesn't work, try a newer computer. But that's all I have, hope this helps!

File error

I have two S760 also having the 'file error' on just some shots Like graham-s-sk new sandisk 2gb and when downloaded the file is there but the attributes are currupted. Talked to Samsung who said the sd card should be formatted on the camera and not to rely on the Sandisk formatting. Have tried this and taken 100 test shots - so far so good!

Format Error

First option would be to attempt to read the disk in another DVD player, for example on a PC. If that succeeds then transferring the data can be done via the PC. Another thing to try is to reset your Camcorder - refer to the manual to locate the switch and then try again. If neither works then re-formatting is probably the only answer. Always format the disks in the camcorder - not elsewhere.Good luck.
