Hp dv4000 screen turned pink now black

3 weeks ago the left side of the screen [hp pavillion dv4000] started to go pink in colour. The screen will now no longer turn on...computer runs fine. i brought in to repair, they could not figure out what part it needed [was not the inverter or cable] anyone know what this could be?

tried to connect to ext monitor but nothing is coming up. i know in the past i've had to manually change the settings on my desktop to be able to display on the ext monitor but since the screen is black, i have no way to change the settings.

sorry for the delay...i've been away the last couple of months and did not bring my broken laptop with me to troubleshoot.

i did manage to change display to ext monitor and it works great! what's next?

If its not the backlight inverter or cable. It will be the LCD screen itself. It seems the shop you took it to isn't really up on laptop repair, as this is a common issue I see often. Get on Ebay and find a screen for your model and replace it. I asure you this will fix your problem.

Why does my galaxy s3 screen turn black, green, or pink?

Screen colours are "additive".
They take some amount of each of the 3 "primary" colours, to make a specific colour. For example, 100% + 100% + 100% gives "white". Getting "pink" when you expect "white" means that you are getting 0% instead of 100% of one of the 3 colours.
Bad screen, or partially-broken cable between the "motherboard" and the screen.

My HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop starts up fine and after a few minutes the screen turns black. I can still see the desktop image in the background but barely. If I reboot the screen looks normal again but...

That means your backlight is going out. The fact that it's happening intermittently like that suggests that you have a faulty screen inverter (a small circuit behind the screen that converts DC power to AC, in order to light the florescent backlight).
I suggest replacing it. Here are some on abay for pretty cheap:

Hp pavillion dv9000 lcd screen changes colour when moved

The inverter is to change the volts from the laptop to the Backlight. This wont have anything to do with it.
Im more than certian it will be the LCD cable. Proberly loose or torn at where the lid closes.
Hope this helps.

HP Pavillion DV4000 notebook display shading

It sounds very much like an inverter issue. The inverter sits under the lcd screen in the screen plastics. It is replaceable, but obviously there is a danger the screen may get damaged.

Display is not coming , black screen is there

If you get zero display at all check if you can hook up an external monitor first to determine if problem is with screen or video card.
If display can barely be seen that is practically black but you can just see it in bright light check brightness levels of screen i cranking them up fails then you need a new screen backlight. Talk with hp about repair.
