Probably mis adjusted cut off valve... not something we recommend doing as it could lead to catastrophic failure

What possible causes have an air compressor shut down before reaching max pressure?

The pressure switch needs adjusting or replaced. The power cord is attached to this switch. There is an adjustment screw under the cover.

At night its shuts down when the therm is satisfied, but trys to restart right away and when it does start it shuts down right away and just keeps doing this

The thermostat has a differential built into the temperature sensing operation. The differential is normally a degree or more. If the stat shuts down at 72 degrees it should not start the unit again until the temperature in the room reaches 73. If the AC runs and cools properly until it shuts down, I would check the thermostat. The AC can not restart immediately after it shuts off because the pressures in the system are too high at the compressor. It takes a few minutes for the pressures equalize allowing the compressor to start. If the stat tells the unit to start under high pressure, the compressor will shut down on overload. It will start and run after the pressure falls enough for the compressor motor to run.

Compressor not releaving head preasure

The head pressure is released thru the needle unloader valve at the pressure switch. Notice a 1/4 inch plastic tube (or metal) running from the intank check valve to the pressure switch. After pressure switch reaches set pressure a small tang moves up and presses on the needle valve releasing the pressure. Only a small amount of air will be released. If however air continues to escape from the needle valve, then the check valve is bad.

I have 2001 s60 volvo 2.4T. The A/c works fine until the outside air temp exceeds 78 degrees then compresser shuts off and won't run. The shop says I need a new compresser. Are there any other options...

The compressor cannot shut itself off. Why do they say it's the compressor? The control circuit shuts off the compressor if the pressures are off or the inside temp reaches setting. Did the mechanic check the pressures, high and low?

Senco air compressor pumps up..when it reaches full pressure it shuts off and then something under the electronic box opens and discharges all of the air.

That is the safety relief valve which means it has gone bad or you need to turn back the high pressure setting about 5 t0 10 psi. When this happens again there should be a small pin in the middle of it that has a metal ring through it. When it goes off push on that pin and if the air coming out stops or shuts off then you need to turn back the psi if not the valve needs replaced.

My regulator broke and I just replaced it. Now the compressor doesn't act like it will automatically shut off when it reaches pressure (130 psi max). Last night it pressured up to right at 130 psi and...

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. Look on the pressure switch and see what the max. is. I have some notes here I will have to locate them and I will post them here if you still having problems, but it sounds like you need to replace the pressure switch. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John

HUSKY 26 Gallon Shuts Down After <75PSI!?

Possibly the pressure switch needs to be adjusted to reach a higher pressure. Trace the power cord into a box that also is piped into the pressure line from the compressor. If the pressure works itself back down again, use thread-locker fluid on the adjustment screw to hold it's setting.

Compressor shuts off before reaching max pressure

Yes,but if the max is 125 you don't want to increase it above 110 and set off the pressure relief valve.

Compressor will not turn off

Most single stage compressors come with a pressure switch set to shut off at 125 - 145 psi. These switches become less efficient over time and will Begin to fail but remain useful. A safety valve (brass plut with pull ring) is installed somewhere on your compressor set to open at aprox. 160psi. If the pressure switch shuts off before the safety valve activates you could probably continue to use the unit. If however you would like to have the unit shut off at 125psi replace the switch any switch that can be installed in the space allowed. The black tubing that you see is the unloader. When the unit reaches set pressure and shuts off, the small valve under the pressure switch will open and release the pressure in the tubing. This allowes the compressor to start with no back-pressure. For max. life of compressor make sure that there are no leaks in system and upplug when not in use.
Pressure switches are sold in pressure ranges from 45psi to 160psi. Some brands are better constructed than others. A squareD switch will give long life being used w/o extension cord. Good Luck
