I plugged my Archos 404 into my brothers computer to transfer some music. It worked for a little while, but after about ten minutes it came up with "USB Device Not Recognised" before this it been working on my own computer for months. Since then this comes up whenever I plug my Archos into all the computers I've tried. I've both uninstalling and disabling the USB Root Hubs and that hasn't worked. Please Help me!!!! Wiggle the cable at the device to get a good connection. Does your USB port support other devices? Plug into another port and see if this solves the problem.

I have some devices where I have to hold the reset for 20 seconds. So try holding it longer. And make sure the print server is powered up when you do it.
First, to transmit to your machine using a USB to serial converter, it should have a FTDI chip. Second, you should be transmitting on Com 1 or 2 -- preferably Com1. You can change the port it transmits on in the Device Manager in computer properties on your computer. Third, check on your machine which port it's looking for -- they must match.
Assuming the keyboard is in working order, you need to check other USB ports. Then, getting into the setup menu on startup, be sure that the legacy USB function is set to "enabled"

Q.
My computer only has USB ports. Can you recommend a Serial (nine pin) to USB converter cable that will work with the Professional Sew Ware™ 2.00a?
A.
We have found that the PSW works best on newer computers when the USB serial adapter cable has not only compatible drivers for the Windows operating system but also a FTDI chip. We have found this FTDI chip in the cable which is listed below: CUSB-232A available from Computerplug.com and Cablesalesusa.com. Any USB to serial adapter with an FTDI chip will work. These cables will work for Windows XP, VISTA, and 7.
- if in windows the LPT ports are addressed properly (if u got a many usb ports, then windows adresses these first and skips the older lpt's- same applies when using an external usb-hub/splitter!)
- that there are no dma or irq conflicts (see device manager) - if the right driver is installed, if it suits the windows version u are using/has been written for it
- doublecheck printer against another printer on your pc using same port
It all depends how your cable is wired. I had to add a null modem adapter and a gender changer to the USB-to-serial cable I bought for this task before I could communicate with the radio. I suggest you try the null modem to see if that is your issue.
