Question about Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Notebook

Laptop problems after changing cpu

I replaced the cpu with a compatible processor that was labeled to work in my laptop.  Now when it comes up, it starts to run, then the screen & text gets heavily distorted.  It does start out like everything is fine, but will not fully boot up.  Does this sound like I need to run the reboot disc to recognize the new processor?  Since I've had this laptop for four years through two moves, I cannot find my reboot disc.  How would I go about getting a new one?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a satellite A35 S-159.

I put a Pentium 4, like was originally installed, but it was a 2.8 GHz instead of 2.3.

It was marked as being compatible with my model.

Thank You for you help. I needed some advice from someone more experienced.

    Thanks,

    Chris

You can't change the celeron by p4 in this model. I have tried change my celeron 2.7 by p4 2.8 from a a45 and doesn't work. I researched so much and I work in my celeron yet.

The some situation above posted by Metro-Chris. I have got a A35-S1592 and tryied 2 different P4 CPUs (2.8 and 3.06) both working in my brother's laptop (A45). Seems a Toshiba MB issue.

Are you sure the CPU is compatible with your notebook?  What kind of notebook do you have?

I have never known a CPU to require any addtional installation steps other than just the physical install.  Did you purchase the CPU new or used?  Before using a recovery disc, I would first suggest getting a replacement CPU and trying again.

Changing acer t690 processor

Yes, you can change the CPU, but your Motherboard will only support certain processors, Take a look at this Acer Support, you will see the compatible CPU's: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT690/AspireT690sp2.shtml Remember : Your machine's component work with one another, within parameters, one component,CPU, will not give you the improvement you might think. CPU, Memory, Graphics Card, Etc.,Upgrades, require more Power/Watts, therefore a new PSU. Which create more heat, new fan. One relies on the other. Do your research, their's a lot more to it than replacing one component. Do a comparison, what will all the components cost, to a new System? The prices for new Good Systems , are low due to slow sales of Desktops/Laptops.

I got an aspire 4520 running on amd turion 64x2 processor and found that the processor is faulty. Can i replace the processor and where can i purchase the processor as i came to known its quit expensive.

You can replace the CPU if the new one is compatable with the computer.
Basically get the same CPU from a site like
  • newegg
  • ebay
then take the laptop apart and discharge yourselve after taking out the power supply and battery.
Make sure to apply new thermal compound to the CPU prior to starting the laptop back up.
Hope this helps

If the processor in your laptop is an AMD, then sorry you cannot change it to an intel processor, the cpu socket on the motherboard is not compatible. If, however, you have an AMD processor and you want to upgrade it to a faster AMD processor.
