Channels changing by themself

The problem is that I can only turn on the tv with the remote. Once the tv is on the channels change by itself. The answer was given by Tech.QTV1, I would like to know where to order the switches, and is there a downloadable shematic to show location. Thanks Dogg056

there was nothing spilled on the tv. I took out the motheboard that cotained six swithes and cleaned them with compressed air and now the set is working. The RCA call center is usless. The number they give you sends you around in a circle. Thanks for your help Dogg056.

I have seen problems like this caused by spilled liquid. Bad switches can definitely do this as well, and can be, themselves, filled with dried sugary goo or corrosion. I wish you could still download schematics for these, but TTE (RCA's new horrible Chinese owners) shut this off. Now they want $40 a pop for schematics, making repair unfeasable for many units. If the switches are a standard type, you can get them many places. You can also clean them by removing them from the board and washing them in isopropyl alcohol, with limited success. Parts for older RCA/GE sets are still available. Most good distributors will research and order these for you gladly, so you can merely call and tell them what you want. The new Chinese RCA/GE/Proscan units are essentially disposable, so don't get a new one of this brand.

I have a 50" philips magnavox tv that changes channels on it own and turns itself on frequently. What is causing this issue?

Do you live with someone who likes practical jokes; even silly ones?

There are a number of companies that make remotes that can mess with someones TV or other remote devices.
I have a watch, as a gag, that will self program its remote to operate any TV capable of this feature. With this watch, I can change channels, power status and even reset the TV to factory default state.
Next time this happens, look behind you.

To see if the problem is with your remote control, go to the receiver and use the channel up/down buttons on the receiver itself. If you can change your channels with the buttons on the receiver, the batteries in your remote control probably need to be changed.

If you can't change channels from the receiver, turn off the receiver. Then unplug it for at least 15 seconds. Plug the receiver back it and turn it on. Again, try changing channels from the receiver itself.

Tune to a channel, and while programming is playing, try tuning to the missing channel by entering the channel number on the remote control keypad to see if channels change. Do not try to select the channel from a channel list, program guide, or favorites list.

If this approach takes you to the correct channel, you need to adjust your favorites list function. Press the "guide" button on your remote. Look for a button on your remote called "fav" or "list." Press it several times and watch for an indication at the top of the guide that you are moving from "all channels" to a particular favorites list.

If you are locked on one channel only, your Channel Lock feature is likely active. Consult your owner's manual to unlock the rest of your channels. See your owner's manual for information on managing favorite channel lists and locking out channels. Enter your password, if necessary.

I have an 1998 rca premiere and it keeps changing channels by itself and turning itself up

You need to change the picture-size by using the TV remote and or cable remote.
On the remote look for P-Size, Zoom, Sreen size or Ratio.

I have a Samsung LN55B650, and cannot use the remote to change channels, hav eto use cable remote. I change to TV mode, and program in channels, but that option is not available once I switch to HDMI2,...

OK the cable box remote is the only one that can change channels in this case. because you are using the tuner in the cable box not the TV.
all you need the TV remote for is to turn the TV on and off and turn the sound up and down. if you used the cable input on the TV then the tv remote would be used to change the channels.

Tv changes channels when turned on.

Be sure your remote hasn't got a button stuck down which is changing channels. If not, take the batteries out of the remote. If this stops the channel changing there is probably some conductve material stuck across the circuit board
inside the remote. If this is the case you have to check inside the remote by openning it up.

TV turns on & off by itself. Channels also change by themselves.

Make sure your remote is totally away from the set.
Make sure the buttons on the set are not sticky
If both of those are ok, it's your E-Prom in the set. RCA's are notorious for this, not a major repair, maybe $75-100. The 8 leg e-rom is only about $6.00

TV changes channels itself

Have you checked to see if any of the front panel buttons are depressed and stuck??? this is a big problem these days?? I have also found the infared remote sensor to be bad on some sets that do crazy things all by them selfs.. A funny storry once i had was a customer called me after her mother called some goast finders as her maggy projection set would go on all by itself andf the channels would change and the volume would go up and down all by its self. funny thing I had a set just like thast in the shop at the time with the same problem and I scoped out the output pulse from the infared reciver on the set and that was putting out noise on the data line and caused the set to eratacly do all sorts of weird stuff. get the point?? its a stck button or the remote sensor is bad.
