You need to install the sound device driver. Go into the device manager and verify it's installed. If it's missing reinstall it.

just go to control panel from the start menu and then settings In control panel you just find your device driver otherwise download new device driver from the site or reinstall it

NO active mixer is one of the volume control, your sound card or your audio port is not installed. try to install again your motherboard installer and locate for the audio of it of for the soundcard. Then after that restart and when the sounds come then you successfully installed it

If you are intrested in uninstalling the update the you have 2 options.
I aint sure about what the active mixer is. Must be a driver malfunction or something.

You can go to the laptop manufacturer website and download the driver for the sound card and check if it works otherwise

Go to Control Panel -> Add/ Remove programs -> In the top you wil have an option which says show updates. It will show all the updates and you can uninstall the latest windows XP update.

Go to dell website and install the latest audio driver for this. You need also to update your operating system. Check on your properties if you have a ? on your audio.

You need to use the CD of your motherboard to install the sound card driver. Do it on Device Manager. If you don't have the disc, you can download the sound driver for Acer from their website.

a. your sound device may be built right in to your motherboard (make sure it's enabled in your bios)
b. you probably don't have installed any drivers for your sound device- install drivers by going into the motherboard manufacturer or your computer manufacturer.. post details and will help you look for them
