My Magnifica is still working fine. It just makes this creaking sound, like it needs some kind of lubrication. I opened the case and looked inside but haven't delved further into the machine. It started making this sound a few months ago, am not sure what it is or whether I should be concerned about it.
The unit is clean and still prepares coffee fine. I am wondering what to do.
These machines do need to be lubricated every so often. First, buy some food safe lubricant, e.g. here. Then, turn the machine off, open the front door, and remove the infuser. There is a holder connected to the machine by two hex screws. You may remove this (or even just leave it on). Now attach a long tube to the lubricant (should come with the can) and spray lubricant on both sides of the vertical screw that moves the infuser up and down. Give it a few good sprays on both sides of the screw, up and down, and that should solve your problem.
Timbo984 is correct, but I would add a caution. Don't over lubricate the vertical drive screw. Apply the lube very sparingly, as drive screw friction will increase with too much lube. Also, a lot of the noise is probably caused by the motion of the holder against the adjacent surface. When you remove the holder, clean it well, and also clean the adjacent surface. You will find that residue has built up behind the holder.
timbo984's answer worked perfectly for me. I used a variant on the lubricant linked above which was in a tube, not an aerosol, and used a pastry brush to apply it to the screw. Instead of screeching, my 6 year old Delonghi now purrs like a cat ??
Can someone please add a pic of what exactly I should be lubricating...please...
hi just removed the yoke, to expose the screws, I can see a small nut sitting below....see photo
better photo showing nut.....
I agree with Timbo984, except that I'm not a fan of oils as lubrication agents. I treat that screw of my Magnifica ESAM4400 every few months with a few traces of a general purpose fat such as SKF LGMT 2/0.2.

The mechanical parts are not properly tight, because of the vibration this will cause loosening to the mechanical parts (erg.screws).
Hi, Is your creaking sound like a one time sharp cracking sound, like something snapping, during the start and end of the brew cycle? I'm hearing that on mine too.
Also is the white strain mark on the brew unit normal? Picture:
