Now, he has vanished into thin air as if he never existed. There is no way to send a new friend request to him because his page no longer exists for me to see, he can't see mine to send me a friend request either. His picture no longer is seen when I look at mutual friends lists or his children's friend lists either. He's gone completely from my view, and me from him. However, his profile does exist and is functioning just fine, as is mine. Any way to fix this without having to open a new Facebook page?
It seems you blocked him or else he deleted Facebook, to unblock a person you need to click the little gear on the top right of the page, click Account Settings then on the left you should see "Blocking" Click it and there will be a list of names you have blocked.
Click on it to reveal a drop down selection:
