Convergence I have the same convergence problems, has anyone had this fixed and if so can you advise part numbers or how much it costs to repair?

Hello Socko,

By your post I gather that you have changed out the Convergence Correction Integrated Circuits? (both of them not just one) In addition you did change out the bias resistors? If so would you send a photo of the problem on the screen, and a step by step layout of what you changed out on the TV. These are needed in order to help you and so as not to revisit what you have already done. If you have not done any work to the set let me know also. This information is needed to aid you in a speedy repair of your TV device.

As far as part numbers the major components are the STK329-110s or STK329-150s which can cost from $5.99 - $16.95 depending on where you buy them from. The biasing resistors which are usually purchased in lots of 10 will cost you about $10.00 - $15.00 depending on where you buy them from.

The above parts costs are based on component level repairs. Now if you just want to replace the convergence board, then it can get costly.
The price of a convergence board can go from $75.00 - $300.00 depending on where you buy it from.

All of the costs mentioned are just for the parts alone you still have to deal with (if you have someone to put these parts in) service fees and labor fees (these are two different things).

Your problem seems to be convergence. This has to do with the video/ audio. If your Tv has no video/ audio and make a chirping sound when you turn on the TV, the problem is within the convergence chips. The symtoms you describes gets to the heart of your tv issue. However your tv can be fixed and it does not have to cost you an arm and one of your legs. If you think you can tackle this repair by doing it yourself then I suggest giving it a go. You can order the kit (audio/video)repair kit/chirping. The cost is reasonable, $68.00. It comes with all the replacement parts and thorugh instructions to guide you through the process. Hi I have a toshiba 50h82 tv that is 7 years old with a convergence problem with the red and green lines that is going to cost $400 to fix but now that I am thinking about it before the convergence problem...
You are describing 2 different problems. The convergence problem can be fixed by either resoldering the convergence ICs or replacing them. These ICs cost about $25 each and there are 2. I suspect that the $4oo is for replacing the convergence board. This should not be necessary as the board can be fixed. Also, the brightness problem can be dirty CRTs, dirty mirror or faulty coolant fluid on the CRTs. If the picture was good prior to the convergence problem, the set is probably worth the repair if you can get the board fixed. While the board is being repaired, the service shop should be able to tell whether or not the brightness can be adjusted.

Thats a common problem that is usualy corrected by replaceing FL231, DL231 and CP230 you can get the parts with instructions on how to do the repair at the following link. Cost about 11.00 shipping is free. The parts are listed under the RCA parts category.

You probably need to get a Sony TV Convergence repair Kit. More info can be found using the link below.

Solution

Found PS5001 on G board was open.

HQ Comments: Could be cold solder joint on one of the STK IC's on the D Board. They run hot and the solder connection might have broken down causing intermittent condition which could have opened the fuse on the
-22v line.

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
