Take off the back cover of printer and check it out for any paper left from the paper jam and then make sure you replace the back cover properly. : )

MFC640 Printer had a paper jam I took the paper out from the back put the cover back on its still flashing paper jam. what should I do?

TRY OPENING AND INSPECTING ALL AREAS WHERE THE PAPER GOES. USE A TORCH OR BRIGHT LIGHT TO CHECK IF THERE ANY BITS OF PAPER. ALSO CHECK IF ANY BITS MISSING FROM THE JAMBED SHEET OF PAPER. LOOK FOR A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER. AROUND THE ROLLERS OR PAPER MOVEMENT AREA. .ALSO IF PRINT HEAD IS ON LEFT SIDE GENTLY MOVE IT TO THE CENTRE WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING, AND CHECK FOR ANY PAPER BITS BEHIND THE PRINT HEAD..
TO DO THIS YOU MUST REMOVE THE PAPER JAM COVER AT REAR OF MACHINE, LIFT UP THE WHOLE SCANNER COVER AND INSPECT. WHEN COMPLETE REPLACE THE REAR COVER AND CLOSE THE MACHINE. THEN RETRY.
HOPE THIS HELPS BARRY UBON.

My Brother HL-2040 paper led light won't stop flashing, the paper's not jammed or anything, I just put in a new toner, too. I tried doing what someone else said about opening the cover and holding Go until...

Hi. The reasons listed in the manual that cause the LED to flash normally are:

Front cover is open
Close the front cover of the printer.
Back cover is open
Close the back cover of the printer.
Paper jam
Clear the paper jam. See Paper jams and how to clear them on page 6-5.
If the printer does not start printing, press the Go button.
No paper fed manual feed slot
Put the paper in the manual feed slot. See Printing on plain paper, bond paper
or transparencies from the manual feed slot on page 1-10 or Printing on thick
paper, labels and envelopes from the manual feed slot on page 1-13.
Memory full
The printer memory is full and the printer cannot print full pages of a
document. See Solving print problems on page 6-15.
Print overrun
A print overrun occurred and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.
See Solving print problems on page 6-15.
Drum Error
The corona wire needs to be cleaned. See Cleaning the corona wire on page 5-14.

If you check out page 6-5 it tells how to clear the paper jam from the rear of the machine! A point often missed.

Check out the website below if you don’t have a copy of the instruction manual =

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002089/US_Eur.pdf

If all else fails, try a reset of the printer Drum & Page counter:
  1. With printer tuned on.
  2. Press and hold the “internal button” behind front cover, until all LEDs illuminate.
  3. Make sure Drum light is off, then release and close front cover.
Hope some of this helps………..Please post a response back here and let us all know if it works?............Regards, Cornwellnet (UK)

Some paper got jammed, so I took it out. Now the

hi, Hello... I would like to try my hand at your problem (it sounds familiar and might be solvable). In a case like this, one has to treat a persistent paper jam assiduously: 1. Turn off the printer, and unplug it. Open up the printer completely, by all available hatches etc (-being that it's a laser printer, mind that too much exposure to bright light will spoil the bluish-reddish developer drum, so don't let light onto it more than a minute or so... or less preferably.) 2. Examine the path the paper takes, as it is printed, from the beginning (the paper tray, or sheet feeder, or manual feeder) to the end (the output tray), and all points in between. 3. Wherever there are bits of paper, or fluff, or anything like that, get it out of there! (-and of course, don't touch the drum - but you know that aleady.) 4. If there are any mechanical sensor switches, make sure they are not bent out of position or otherwise 'stuck on'... and if there are any optical sensors you can see, be extra sure there is nothing sticking in them (within the squared-off-U-shape most of them look like that), that would activate them. 5. Can't see anything? Reset your printer, as follows: Turn the printer OFF. (Or if it won't turn off, just) Unplug the printer from the wall or power strip. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. Plug it back in. Turn it on if it didn't turn itself on. Wait for it to initialize. Try printing again.

Paper jam

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Printer says it's jammed, but i took out the paper tray, took out the jammed paper, put it back in, now it won't work. it continues to say it's jammed.

If you did not get ALL the jammed sheet out, there is still a small piece of paper in there somewhere, probably covering a sensor or micro switch. Get a torch and look carefully. If youu don't find anything you may need to disassemble the printer to find it

Paper jam

This is bad news for these printers. Paper jams tend to ruin the print head. To get the paper out, first remove the print head and ink, if possible. Then go in back of the printer and at the bottom there's a piece that can be pulled out. That piece is hard to get in so take very careful not of how it looks as you pull it out so you can put it in the same way. The piece is sunk into the printer a bit and you got to pull by both ends of it. From there you should be able to pull the paper out. When done, put that piece back in and put the print head and ink back into the printer. The reason for removing it is to minimize any further damage it might get from pulling on the paper under it. Also be sure to put the print head on a paper towel and do not put the circuit board/contacts of it touching anything.

At the back of the printer... open the feeder door and slowly remove the jammed papers.... put it back and put some paper in the tray and press resume button... this will continue printing the remaining print jobs.

good luck... happy FIXYA...
