Blackberry 8100 -- will not work properly in that it will come on but no buttons work or the ball. Just stopped working suddenly. It has been dropped or gotten wet.

it can be solved only by opening the trackball and removing the dust in the trackball....it is the most common problem with blackberry mobile... u can be able to see the repairing procedure of the track ball in the youtube videos..

Have you dropped the phone or by any chance did the phone get wet .....
If not there might be either software problem or hardware problem.
For the same :
1.Install Blackberry desktop Manager ...Take Backup..
2.Reinstall the Software ....
3.If not happening contact service center as there might be any hardware problem.

the color ball change is a program you can install in your blackberry to change the color of the led under the trackball.

Cleaning the track ball on blackberry phones. Remove the metal ring then the ball mechanism remember how you removed it because it needs to go in the same way. You can also try removing the battery from phone taking a qtip with alcohol the higher the percentage of alcohol the better. and wiping and rolling the ball around even without removing it from the phone. this usually helps unless the ball is extremely dirty. Removing blackberry tracball (non BOLD)

It might be a case where the track ball has some dirt or debris underneath it. First, turn the device off. Next, press down firmly on the track ball while at the same time rolling it in every direction. Hopefully that will knock loose any debris. Another tip to try is to wet your thumb with a little water and do the same thing.

I was having issues with my trackball as well....I ordered a new one, it was $12 and that included the shipping from amazon.com.

There is a little aluminum foil piece underneath your ball, and it's probably bent and broke. Pop the ball out and check it out
