Whats happening is that the cpu is overheating and shutting down the computer due to your fan not spinning, if you wish to test this remove the bottom panel and remove the fan and its cooling tubes should all be one part (quite easy 3 or 4 bolts) and blow on the cpu or put a pedistal fan facing it or any other form of cooling that wont damage it, and try to start it if it boots for a while it is the fan and you will need to replace it, i had this exact problem yesterday

If you tilt it to the light, do you see a faint image?

Can you connect the laptop to a external monitor and toggle the FN + F5 key to adjust monitor settings to output to the 2nd screen.

Equium M40X gets overheated

this is a laptop computer?

THis is probably a simple heating problem. if it is, you'll have to replace or otherwise repair the heatsink, and maybe the CPU as well.

In general, if this is still under warranty, your best bet is probably to just return it to toshiba for repair/replacement.

I would NOT reccomend opening the case on an in-warranty laptop.

However, in case this ISN'T a heating problem, or if you need a temporary workaround... these ideas MIGHT work. they won't be permanent solutions, though.

1. try setting your bios, and your windows settings, to the options that use the least power.  less power = less heat.

2. If you deliberatly overclocked your cpu at some point, reset it to normal speed. or even less-then-normal speed.

3.  are you certain this isn't just a power problem, or a corrupt operating system?  you might want to try reinstalling the os, and running the computer from an AC outlet, maybe even with the battery removed

Equium M40X freezes

Hi, it seems your experiencing a overheat issue. At least one fan inside your PC has stopped working. The PC monitors internal heat, when the PC reaches a certain temperature it will shut down & or freeze. Chances are it's the CPU fan.
