Re: studio display m7649 picture will not come up when...
I am not sure how youve manage to connect these 2 items. You did not specify whic Portage you have, but even the most recent only has SXGA video port. The Apple cinema display connector is ADC. APPLE DISPLAY CONNECTOR. No computers on the planet have this port except for apple's. It's basically a modified DVI connector. In order for you to use this monitor with your computer, you would have to purchase a DVI to ADC connector , which is another APPLE only item and selld for $100 new. You would then have to purchase a SXGA to DVI adaptor...It sounds like a costly endeavor, and with a connections your Portage's onboard video card , amynot even support the resolution for this monitor.

Step 1: Static, or fuzz, on your computer display is often caused by interference or an improperly functioning driver. Eliminate static using a two-part process. Ensure that your connections are tight and then ensure that you have the most recent display software installed on your computer. The entire procedure can be done in about 30 minutes or less.
Reach around to the back of your computer and ensure that your monitor cable is tightly connected to the machine. Perform the same task at the point where the cable connects to your monitor. Go to the website of your video card's manufacturer and click on the "Drivers Download" page. Enter the model number of your video card and click "Search." Download the latest driver for your system. Click "Save" to store the file on your hard drive. Double click on the file and click "Install" to install the driver to your system. Restart your computer when the installation is complete. If your computer is still under warranty you can contact the Toshiba support site and order recovery media. They will refer you to the company that sells them. The cost is about 45 dollars + taxes. Even if your computer is no longer under warranty you may still be able to obtain the recovery medias.
Failing that, you may consider buying a retail version of the Windows Operating system and install it on the computer. Some custom buttons may not work, and you will have to go to the Toshiba support web site to download the drivers for your computer. Before buying a version of Windows, check the Toshiba site for your computer and your intented OS (WinXP 32/64, Vista 32/64, or Win 7 32/64) )to see if they have drivers.
This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.
