Amplifier doesn't power-up

Amplifier Immediately goes into PROTECT mode with a Red LED shown. Can somebody please explain to me what might be causing this??

  • filthyscum66 May 19, 2009

Thank you for your in-put and advice. I found out theat the Ground terminal was not connected to an appropriate part of the chassis and was therefore not completing the circuit. The PROTECT LED must have been powered by the stereo.

3 possible reasons you amplifier is trying to protect itself.

* Ground sensed on Positive terminal - could be shorted wire, stray wire strands from terminals, blown voicecoil on speaker - speaker wire touching ground.

* Thermal/impedence shutdown - Amplifier load is below rated minimum, amplifier has been overworked and is too hot (mostly due to improper load or gain setting too high.

*Internal Problem - Output channel or IC blown... causing an internal fault.

NAD M3 power light turns red immediately and PROTECT message displays. Amp keeps functioning but volume control doesn't work up or down.

Hello
Check the connection to speaker with this amp, for any short or any other fault. disconnect the outputs, ie, speakers from the amp, and switch it On, and see the protect display comes or not. If it comes, the fault is internal and the set need service.
Your M3 dual Mono integrated amp, is of high output power and its outputs are protected against any overload or short circuit. If the system detect any among this condition specified above, it will show protect mode display.
Never load this amp, as protection display is there, as it may damage the speaker or its internal power amplifier section circuits, may cause more money to get it repaired. OK.

I wanna supplied my Amplifier Lanzar MNX 250 with an 12V - 30 Ohm battery, but the led of my amplifier is red and my speaker doesn't play music. How can I fix the "protect mode" in which the...

  1. The battery is 12 volts and Ohms has nothing to do with your amp installation.
  2. Was the amp running and got hot? Many times an amp will go into "thermal mode" when used for an extended amount of time and need to cool down but I assume if you are trying to hook it up you were not using it.
  3. You need to check the ground wire real well. A loose ground will cause protect mode.
  4. Recheck the speaker wires and their connections. If they cross this to can cause protection mode.
  5. This is a 4 Ohm amp, are your speakers 4 ohm or lower> If not then you may be running to low of a load to your amplifier.
  6. I always remove everything from the amp first and power it on and then add wires and see where which connection throws the amp into power mode.
  7. Check the fuse as well but if the LED is on chances are your fuse is good.
  8. If you check all of the items I listed and the amp still goes into protect mode then your amp is bad.

My phoenix gold x200.4 amp turns on but the protect light keep on flashing

  • What does it mean when the LEDs flash on my amplifier?
With most recently produced Phoenix Gold amplifiers, a flashing/blinking LED is an indication that the unit is in protect mode, usually due to an overcurrent condition caused by an internal short, external short (speakers), or low impedance. Overheating will also cause the amplifier to shut down temporarily.

If amplifier remains in protect mode, power down the amplifier, disconnect the speakers, and power up again. If LEDs continue to flash, there is probably an internal problem with the amplifier that will require service attention to fix.

Where can i get a free copy of schematic diagram for amplifier

Generally a "protect" mode would be triggered by a shorted output (speaker). I would suggest disconnection all of the speakers to see if the red light goes off.

    Protection mode

It's normal for some amps to go into protect for a few seconds when initially powered up. If it remains in protect mode, it may have shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following troubleshooting page:
