Fusing assembly How difficult is it to replace the fusing assembly on this unit? It looks similar to the HP 5L body type. Is it similar? Are the fusing assembly redily available ot purchase?

Replace the paddle motor. Spares are redily available on Amazon

This 'cover' is not availble as a replacement part. In fact, NONE of the parts on the body of this shaver model are available as replacement parts. Only the foil, frame and cutters are available as replacement parts
Furthermore, this is a discontinued model. Replacing it with another MS-280 will be difficult. However, there is a similar model MS2-390 available from shaveroutlet.com. See link below

for the converter there exists 2 types.
The 2 types can be distinguished with respect to their pricing.

The one which is more expensive is much more capable of a good conversion.
I met a similar situation in the past, and i solved out the problem by choosing the one which costs more.

You need a PCI USB port, these are redily available, from my favorite place eBay.. There are a few "Models" they all have multiple ports and sometimes even have a firewire port ot two as well.

The L80 printer guts are very similar to the HP 5L and HP 6L printer (Not well known, but the printing engines on many HP printers are made by Canon). In fact it is almost possible to use a 5L/6L toner cartridge in the L80, but as I recall there was a plastic nub that prevented it from fitting properly. This is probably meant to force the user to buy more expensive Canon toner carts instead of using cheaper generics for the 5L/6L. Try HP PartSurfer and you may be able to locate the part that you need.

I had a similar problem on a HP Laserjet printer. It turned out to be dust coating one side of the mirror in the laser assembly. It isn't difficult ot fix with the HPs, but I don't know specifically about the Lexmarks. I would imagine about the same difficulty level. Just make sure you don't put fingerprints on the mirror (you'll see them on every page printed).

Parts are no longer available. You might be able to clean the feed roller by removing the toner cartridge and cleaning the gray roller with isoprpyl alcohone.

Is the toner fused to the paper, or 'loose', and can be rubbed of easily. Are there 'flakes' of toner, that may or may not be loose?

If the toner is fused, the cartridges are likely to be leaking toner - especially if they are remanufactured - not easy to get right, and even more difficult to get right if 'home refilled'.
Solution to this is replace cartridges, or if these are new return them to supplier as faulty.


If there are 'flakes', it is likely to be the fuser that is contaminated with toner that has ot fused to previous pages - usually as a result of using the wrong type of media, or setting the wrong paper type when printing on thick media.

Fuser can be cleaned, or in extreme cases replaced.

It prob. needs an overhaul/reconditioning/cleaning to soften up or replace the rollers and rubber pads in the paper path. I imagine it needs this about every 5-6 years. Don't know if new parts are still available for this great old machine, but it's worth trying to keep it alive, at least until you change computers and don't have a parallel output port anymore ;^).

well..those are only usually available to the HP certified field folk...
