I just installed a used Asrock K7S41GX board which is working just fine exept I have no sound through my external speakers. The internal speaker on the the board beeps on startup but nothing after that. Do I need to reset the bios? If so, the only way I know that's easiest is to remove the battery.

I have no speaker icon. On resetting the BIOS, I'm correct if I just pull the battery for 5 minutes?

I have XP. In sounds and audio I have no controls because under "volume" it says "no sound device". When I click the sounds tab and pick one to play a sound I get an error message "Windows cannot play the sound%SystemRoot%\media\WindowsXP error.wav sound card may be in use"

  • Anonymous May 19, 2009

No. On startup, I pushed the F2 button, it hesitated a bit but then continued with normal boot procedure. I couldn't get it to go into the setup mode. As you can tell I'm not an expert when it comes to changing parameters in this way.

I installed the ac97 driver last night with no change in sound. I do have broadband, thankfully! The speakers are plugged into the corrcect jack. I was only going to change the bios because I don't know if any changes were done prior to me getting this used mobo. I figure that by removing the battery and waiting it would reset back to factory defaults - is this something I should do after installing the driver as you suggest? Also, will this driver install over the existing driver if ,in fact, it did install?

Hi Harry. Sorry it's taken so long in getting back to you about the above problem... I just today got into the setup screen and checked the audio area. It had "auto" set so I changed to "enabled" and did a cold start on the cpu. Still no sound, so I guess you're correct that the built in sound card is corrupt! You mention one from newegg... do you have a model# ? Also, how, or should I, turn off or disable the on board sound card? Will the new one just plug into a slot?
    Thanks
    Dave

Try resettting your BIOS first and see if that solves it. If not then look to see if you have an icon of a speaker in the bottom right hand corner of the screen where the time is and make sure that isn't muted and the volume is turned up.

If you hear just one short beep on the onboard speaker it means that everything is fine. You should download the drivers for the onboard sound from Asrock website.

I don't think you need to reset the bios. Go to control panel, click on "System" then click on the Device Manager tab. Look to see if there is anything listed in "Sound, video game controllers" Also look in Device Manager to see if there are any Yellow question marks. Let me know!

If you have XP go to control panel and click on Sounds and Aduio Devices. You should see your sound drivers there. Make sure "mute" is unchecked. If not xp hunt for a similar file in control panel. Let me know.

Did you check to make sure onboard sound is enabled in Bios? This is last step before I suggest a solution for you.

  • Hank May 19, 2009

Okay, no problem. I would like you to re-install your audio drivers. You can find them here:

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Mo...

This is the page for your mobo. You can click downloads on left side of page and select audio driver (large file ...I hope you have broadband :)

You can also download the manual if you want to change that bios setting. But install new audio driver first. This should be the answer...if not we can try something else.

By the way...make sure speakers are pluged into the right jack.

    let me know

    Okay...Here is your solution.

Asrock motherboard continues to have no sound after many attempts to download drivers and enable onboard sound in BIOS. Possibility exists that onboard sound card is corrupt.

Install new sound card and bypass onboard sound.

(you can purchase new sound card from newegg for about $7.00. If you have any other questions let me know....)

    Best of luck

    Harry

Dv6000 no sound from internal speakers

If the stereo jack works, then there is no problem with the sound card or its drivers. Your speakers have played their last, most likely some internal wiring broken as speakers themselves rarely just quit.

No sound from external speakers with toshiba dynadock

if using XP, go to start control panel , sound and audio devices.Under the audio tab make sure the C Media CM106 sound device is selected under sound playback. Then under the volume tab set the volume somewhere in the middle or at the top if you don;t have active speakers . Then Under Speaker settings advanced, make sure the speaker setup is set to Laptop Stereo speakers. Also make sure the speaker volumes are up on the speaker volume button. click ok. If no result check that the cm106 sound decvice was cemented in as I saw it dissaper when I thought i had slected it. I think the key thing here is the device and the laptop speakers setting.

External speakers don't work but internal speaker works fine.

Try your speakers on another system to make sure speakers are working.

Make sure volume control on PC is not set on mute.

Make sure onboard sound is enabled in BIOS

Try re-installing the sound card driver.

If all this fails and you have a spare slot on your PC just purchase a new sound card for about $10.00 or so.

Sound problem - Acer Aspire 5920

I assume you are using Windows Vista as ships with Aspire 5920's. Try the following to make sure that Windows is using the correct output options:
  1. Click on the Start Menu and go to Control Panel
  2. From Control Panel click on Hardware and Sound
  3. Click on the heading Sound and the sound configuration box will appear.
  4. The first tab is called Playback and allows you to select a playback device.  You should find your external speakers and internal speakers listed.
  5. Click the external speakers and then click on the "set default" button to make sure that the sound is played back through those instead of your internals.

No, you need not to install soud/audio driver if its work with external speakers. Its seems that the internal speaker of your laptop has got damaged. So you shuld call your vendor for service. If you are in warranty it will be free for you.
