Makita 14.4V Cordless Impact Driver only works at high speed

On Friday while installing composite decking on a very small porch, I was using my 14.4V Makita cordless impact driver which was working great until I got near the end when the slower speed setting (half-trigger) stopped working and the driver only ran at high speed with the trigger completely depressed.  Motor problem, or trigger connection?  The driver got pretty hot doing all that screwing...

Most cordless drill / drivers like this have electronic switchs which unfortunately would have to be fixed by a repair agent. Depending on it's age - make sure that you tell the agent that it never really worked properly, warrentys only cover parts that were faulty from manufacture and not wear and tear, so it may get fixed for free depending on the repair centre

When I press the power switch it starts to work at maximum rpm

The variable speed function is controlled by the switch. On rare occasions you can remove the switch, spray it with electronics cleaner and blow it out well to get it to work again. Usually you have to replace the switch. The switch for your impact driver is Makita part number 638326-6 and runs about $65.

The screw point got stuck inside of the makita

Low quality steel drill bits get stuck in the Makita because the hammer impact squashes the metal, forming a ridge that gets snagged on the anvil's steel ball bearing. Use only impact drill bits.

The motor is working but the chuck head is not turning properly - it turns and then when you put pressure on it it stops. I have 3 makita drills and this is happening with all of them

First, check the lever on the top of the drill (high/ low lever speed) and make sure it is engaged in one of the positions. If it is in the middle it will cause your drill to stop. Otherwise, the gear box is gone and will need to replaced. The part # you need is #125-429-0 and it runs about $59.20.
Good luck
