I have tried to hook up cable and dvd to my big screen, but nothing is working. I even tried going through the "set-up" options. The only thing I can think of is, the A/V part of the setup is on "none". It will not let me go to basic or advance options within this part of the set-up.

Re: Can not get picture/sound on my big-screen
Although this is an old post I will try to answer it the best I can.
As long as you have hooked up your cablr/dvd onto the right tuner ( tuner a/tuner b.etc ), it should work if you go to the menu and turn on that tuner. ( ie: if you hook the tuner to tuner A, open up your menu and find where it asks which tuner you are choosing to use and click on tuner A ), then the set should work. If this doesn't straighten up the problem, you may have a bad processor on the main tuner board. I hope this has helped.

The Sony recorder is connected to the TV via the RCA cables (for both audio and video)? How many inputs does your TV have? One cable input and one RCA line in (making a total of two? Did you eliminate the possibility that the recorder might be defective by trying it on another TV?
Go into your display driver, and make certain you have it set to have the internal LCD as your primary display. There should be an option to go ahead and have it either act as a second display just cloning what's on your screen or to have it extend. (select the option to clone)
I ran into the same problem, Radio Shack has a device called a RF Modulator. The model # is Model: 15-2526 | Catalog #: 15-2526, the price is $27.49. On the back there is a place for cable in and cable out to tv. There are the 3 rca jacks on the back also, 1 video (yellow) and 2 audio (red/white) That simple. Set the tv to channel 3, turn on the dvd player and it automaticlly puts the dvd on the screen. Turn it off and back to normal cable. Works great, I use one myself. hope this helps. Steve
you may have the outputs hooked up correctly however you may need to set the inputs to the selected type of cable you are using. S video 1 cable or video input witch is an rca adapter yellow in color. you will find these setting in the "setup section" on the remote set up button will get you there and then input or source.
You need 3 pins cable for Components Video hook up and 2 pins for Audio Right-Left conncetion.
There is another option of Yellow-Red-White combination for Video / Audio hook up.
Please let me know what type of set up you need.
