Memory card not ready

I have the same phone, and after beating my head against the memory cards on the desk I kept buying which didn't work I found out that the LG CU500 phone is very picky about what memory cards it supports, and to date the best I have been able to do with it is a 1G Sandisk memory card (the brand is specific too, I tried another brand (Kingston) and it worked intermittently). I think there is a v2 of the CU500 and I don't know anything about it, I have the first generation of the hardware and it would seem as if the phone 1) doesn't support SDHC at all, and 2) doesn't support memory cards over 1G.

Are you getting a format error? the card (if new) should be "ready" already. also you may want to verify in your owners manual that the phone can handle a 4 gig card.
