Ps3 plays in black and white with av composite cable

PS3 will play in black/white using av composite cable pluged into L(white) and R(red) ports. The TV will not show a picture with the yellow plug pluged into the video(yellow) port. If I plug the yellow plug into the Y port (not sure of color, maybe green) the picture will show in black and white.

Some newer TVs do not have the traditional "yellow" video input, known as an "AV" connection. Even without that input, you should be able to use the standard three-color Wii AV Cable that came with the system.

What to Do:

  1. Look for "component" inputs on your TV. These connections have a row of five differently-colored inputs (green, blue, and red for video, white and red for audio). If you have more than one set of component inputs, it's the first set that generally works with standard AV cables. Look for a set that has a green input with yellow around it, or the word "video" just above or below it.
  2. Plug the yellow end of the Wii A/V cable into this green "Y" input. Plug the white end into the audio "L" and the red into the audio "R." Leave the blue and second red holes open.
  3. ps3 plays in black and white with av composite cab - composite_inputs_window.png
  4. Turn on your Wii console and set your television to the input select being used.
  5. If you are seeing the image from the Wii in black and white, try the following to get the image in color:
    • Cycle through your television's input channels (usually with the "Input Select" or "Source" button on your TV's remote control) to find the input select that has the image in color.
    • If you're only finding the image in black and white, you may need to switch the setting of the input select from a component signal to a standard AV signal. This can be done by:
      • An on screen menu option. This is often accessed by using the "Menu" button on the remote.
      • A button on the remote that switches between the standard and component signals. These can be labeled such things as "AV" or "Video."

My problem is earlier today i was playing my ps3, the picture was showing on the t.v. ( a HDMI Cable conected it to the tv), but 30 minutes later, i tried to play my ps3, the picture was not showing up...

Sounds like your video settings are wrong. Since you were on the HDMI connection the video was outputting in HD. When you switched over to normal AV (composite) cables the video was still outputting in HD.

Simple fix: power off your PS3 (so it's in standby; red light is showing). Then turn it back on, using the power button on the console (not the PS3 controller) and hold down the power button until it beeps a second time (about 5 seconds). The video settings will reset to composite. If needed, change your video settings.

Normally I'd put down like 3 other things it could be (each worse than the last), but I'm fairly certain that this will fix it. If it doesn't, just say so and I have many a more potential fix available.

Hope it works!

Can't get the play station to work with the tv. The av is plugged in correctly and the ps is turned on. Don't know which channel to go to, and when EXT we tried all different inputs and it still doesn't...

Which generation playstation are you referring to The PS2 or PS3. The PS2 would be connected with a composite cable by default i.e red white and yellow cable. Connect the cable to the corresponding input on the TV, match color codes. Switch to correct input by using your remote controller. Press the AV button and a list of inputs come's up.Select av1 or av2 and check if you get a picture. If you use a ps3 then same as before press AV button on remote and select appropriate option on screen HDMI,Component or Composite.

How do i connect a playstation 3 to a philips tv

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a high-definition gaming console that supports both standard AV connections and high-resolution connections (such as HDMI). Most of the older Philips TVs come with a standard AV input. Newer, flat-panel Philips TVs include standard AV inputs and high-resolution inputs. To get the best video quality out of your PS3, using an HDMI connection is recommended if the option is available. The PS3 does not include an HDMI cable, only a standard AV cable

Standard AV
  • 1 Turn off the PS3.
  • 2 Connect the flat end of the PS3 AV cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3.
  • 3 Connect the "red," "white" and "yellow" prongs on the opposite end of the PS3 AV cable into the corresponding "red," "white" and "yellow" AV inputs on the TV (usually located on the side or in the back).
  • 4 Press the "Source" button on the Philips TV remote.
  • 5 Select the "AV" video display mode.
  • 6 Turn on the PS3. The PS3 logo will appear on the screen.
  • HDMI Connection

Will not play without using HDMI cable

    1. Make sure the AV Cable is connected to the [AV MULTI-OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system.
    2. Connect the other end of the AV Cable into the yellow Composite port for video, and into the white and red audio ports (if your TV does not have the red port, simply ignore it) on the back of your TV.
    3. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
    4. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

if you are using one of those cables that makes the ps3 have better graphics, then that could be the problem. use only the basic cables that come with the ps3

    Play station 3 and tv

The ilo dtv 2784 can be hooked up to the PS3 a few different ways actually!

1st - It can be hooked up through "component" cables. This is the red, green and blue connectors (video) with a red and white connector (audio). You would need to buy the component cable specifically for the PS3. This would be the "best" quality, and this link is just to show you what it looks like (they can be purchased at almost any store that carries electronics.

2nd, you could hook it up with "composite" cables, which are the standard cables that most of us have used at one point or another. It is the "yellow" connector (video) with the red and white connectors which are (audio). This cable will not give you as good as quality, but it is cheaper if money is an issue.

My componet/av only shows black and white on my vizio vp422

The 37" Vizio I just bought has a very confusing feature where the same input can be used as either the Y channel of the component or the full video channel for composite. If you plug a component source into the TV and then select the composite input ("AV" on the remote), you will see a black and white version of the full component signal (makes sense as the Y channel is just the luminance component). As sad as it is, I was stumped by this for a while until I happened to hit "COMP" and got full color. FWIW, the manual warns about this, but it really doesn't emphasize the point. I wonder how many returns they get because of this.

    Connection of PS3

You will have to connect it to the TV using the composite cable to change the settings. This is the cable with yellow red and white connectors. Connect it to one of the composite inputs on the TV. You should be able to leave to HDMI connected at the same time so that once you make the change, you can change to the HDMI input and see if it works.

    Hdmi

I can't be exactly sure without more information, but it sounds like you ps3 is outputting from another port. My ps3 originally was outputting from the component/composite cable port so in order to use the hdmi output I had to do a soft reset. That makes the ps3 sense what cable is plugged into it and automatically output through that port instead of using whatever is the saved setting.

With your ps3 turned on hold down the power button for a few second until it beeps and flashes 3 times (should be about 5 seconds). You might have to try it a few times to get it to work, but you should get picture and be able to adjust the settings on the ps3.
