Dell printer won't communicate with computer

My printer won't communicate with my computer any longer. I have recently had to completely wipe out my computer due to viruses but the printer wasn't working prior to that--I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. When I plug the USB cord in, my computer recognizes that. The 'currently printing' box will pop up as well, but it will stop at 50% for example if I'm printing a 2-page document. But the printer itself will never actually print. The screen on the printer says "printing" but it isn't. Copying works fine--just not printing. I'm SO ANNOYED! If anyone can help, please do!! I've had the same problem for almost 2 years now. I've reinstalled the drivers many times, had Dell send a replacement printer and a replacement wireless printer adapater (3300), etc. When I first install the printer (network printer installation), it will usually print okay once or twice, but then print jobs will just start to hang and never complete. I have to clear the print queue, reboot my laptop, and power cycle the printer to get it to print again - and even then it only works about half the time...

REINSTALL THE PRINTER DRIVER FROM DISC THAT CAME WITH YOUR PRINTER.

IF YOU DONT HAVE DISK SEARCH THE WEB FOR PRINTER DRIVER FOR DELL 924 PRINTER (your need to know what operating system you have win 98,xp ETC.. )DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE DRIVER YOU NEED AND INSTALL HAPPY PRINTING

When I try to scan or print a message comes up telling me to ck power and usb connections. I have unplugged and restarted computer 4 times and still have problem

It could be a communications error message, the printer is not communicating with the computer.

Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable.

Disconnect and then reconnect the printer power cable.

Restart the computer.

Remove and reinstall the printer software

If your printer does not function properly or communication error messages appear when using your printer, you can remove and reinstall the printer software.

Click Start®Programs or All Programs®Dell Printers®Dell Photo AIO Printer 962®Uninstall Dell Photo AIO Printer 962.
Follow the instructions on the computer screen to remove the printer software.
Restart your computer before installing the software again.
Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD, and then follow the instructions on the computer screen to install the software.

If the installation screen does not appear:

In Windows XP, click Start®My Computer.

In Windows 2000, double-click My Computer from your desktop.

Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon. If necessary, double-click setup.exe.
When the printer software installation screen appears, click Install or Install Now.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.

Printer works, scanner/copy does not

The problem could be because of ONE out of TWO problems listed below. Try the steps recommended and it should fix the problem.

Drivers Issue: Try uninstalling the printer drivers using the utility http://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R166248.zip .Then install the drivers from the support website. Use the link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A924. Also DO NOT forget to update your computer's chipset drivers before this.
Firewall Issue: Maybe your firewall is blocking the connection to your printer/scanner. Try allowing access to all applications related to Dell or printer or communication systems under Program Permissions in your Firewall program.

unfortunately I had the same problem and despite extensive troubleshooting and patching system from lexmark.com I eventually just uninstalled and completely reinstalled the software with the cd. took all of 3min and problem fixed!!

Dell Color Printer 725 - Communication Not Available

I have seen that in most of the cases (with lexmark and dell printers) it is fixed by reinstalling the printer software. Be sure that you completely remove the older drivers using the cd or using add/remove programs.

When I hit 'file' then 'print' nothing happens

Go to your device manager and make sure that you have a driver for the printer. Or uninstall the printer then reinstall it. sounds like the printer driver has been deleted
