Have tried to use the camcorder with a couple of different dvd rw discs, but it does not recognise these with the error message Cannot read the disc, check the disc. I've followed the advice given by canon, but am wondering if it is a compatibilty problem, have tried DL and single. Have tried a couple of the same model with the same problem (we have a number of these DVD camcorders so neet to get them working!
DISC ERROR HAS OCCURED, THEN SAYS REPAIR DISC NOW? PRESSED YES. SAYS UNABLE TO REPAIR
DISC. THEN SAYS, DISC NON RECORDABLE. I HAVE A FULL HALF HOUR OF DATA ON DISC, DOES THIS MEAN MY DATA IS GONE FOREVER? HOW CAN I FIX THIS IT WONT LET ME TAKE THE DISC OUT.

If a FORMAT ERROR message is displayed,
then the inserted disc is not formatted or it is recorded in a
different format not useable by the camcorder. If using a DVD-RW or
DVD+RW, format the disc prior to use. Otherwise, use a different disc.
This camcorder only takes DVD-R and DVD-RW, it will not work with the +R discs. I've used Maxell and Fujifilm discs and they both worked fine. You have to make sure the camcorder is plugged in the wall when initializing or else it won't initialize.
Here is the link to the user manual for your camcorder;
page 72 should tell you what you need to know.
Please note that you have to use a DVD-RW in order to be able to delete items; a DVD-R will not allow this.
Hope this helps - please ask again if you still have trouble :)
