Question about Roku 3

Roku 3 when accessing content displays the folowing error message: HDCP Unauthorized. Content Disabled." Have soft booted, hard booted, powercycled, powercycled TV, re-seated hdmi cable, tried 3 different hdmi cables, am able to get audio and can get video until begin streaming most any channel on the roku 3. Please advise.

To resolve the "HDCP unauthorized. Content disabled" issue, try these steps:

  1. If you are trying to stream 4K Ultra HD content when you see the purple screen, review the instructions for setting up your Roku player for 4K. Go to the next step if you continue to see a purple screen.
  2. On both your Roku player and your TV or AVR, unplug each end of the HDMI cable.
  3. Power off your TV and your Roku player and unplug their respective power supplies.
  4. Reconnect both ends of the HDMI cable, pushing them firmly, all the way in.
  5. Reconnect your TV and your Roku player to their power supplies and power them on.
  6. Try viewing the video again.
If the above did not resolve your issue, try these additional suggestions:
  • Try a different HDMI input on your TV.
  • Try using a different HDMI cable (less than 6 feet if available), just to make sure the cable you are currently using does not have any defects.
  • If you are using an HDMI switch or AVR, try connecting the Roku player directly to the TV.
  • Try another TV, if possible.
  • If you are using a computer monitor, try using a TV, if possible.
  • Try using different Display Settings on your Roku player. You can find these settings under Settings >Display type.
  • If this is the first time you are seeing this HDCP purple screen after setting up your Roku player, ensure that your TV and/or AVR supports HDCP. Contact your equipment manufacturer for more information.

It seams that it is not supporting well the Hdmi cable ...try to change in a second hdmi channel if it has...also be sure you selected the hdmi on the tv ..and after that from the menu rectify the issues for the image ...first try the auto-setting button ..and if this is not working adjust them one by one horizontal ..and vertical ..and all from the tv settings (osd)

Make sure you select the correct input for your device. If you are using RCA cables then select the RGB option on your inputs, or it may RCA as a connection. If you are using HDMI then make sure that is selected.

Sounds to me that your Roku is losing signal to the Router or hotspot. Try setting the router at least 5 feet away from the Roku Box and the higher the router is in the house, the better signal for all devices. Wi-fi broadcast down easier than up!

hi this is caused by a stup1d copyright protocol in hdmi called HDCP.
If your TV is an older model it may not have HDCP compliance.
I call it stup1d because you can be legally watching content and still have problems if your tv is not HDCP compliant.

I have a Samsung un40fh6030. About a month ago it has been giving me a purple screen saying HDCP something, content disabled. This is only with my Roku. Please see additional details in below.
Please contact RUKU support, they will know what the message means and how to fix it, chances are the device is defective.

I am getting 'HDCP unauthorized content disabled '
You are playing content over an HDMI cable that contains a copy blocking system. This is the reason that manufactures pushed HDMI systems instead of DVI. Digital content protection was the whole purpose.

It is a Roku vs TV interpreation of HDMI. IMO it is Roku being too protective. No other box in the house has a problem with any of TVs or cables. New cables did nothing and the cables were the latest and gold plated. Reboot the Roku and it works....for a while until it comes back.

I have a 2009 Lg 37lh30 Tv and for the most part it works until recently. I am now getting a HDCP rejection when using an Apple tv or Roku and no screen when using my bluRay Player (which use to work
Some TV's & cables are not HDCP compliant . Sometimes you can replace the cable to fix the problem & other times you have to replace the tv because its not HDCP compliant . First check to see if your tv is HDCP compliant .
