It lights up because the CPU has recorded a fault that needs urgent attention. stop check oil and coolant levels. have a fault code reading done and fix the fault. To continue driving will eventually place the engine in low power mode or will cause big dollar repairs.

The letters EPS are lit up in red on the face of the tachometer in my 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring. Dealer says it costs $95 to have them run diagnostic. Is that reasonable?

The electronic power steering (EPS) Warning Light is located on the instrument panel. This light illuminates when the EPS is malfunctioning. When this light is lit, your steering may be a little heavier, and you should schedule an inspection as soon as possible. Tip The EPS Warning Light briefly illuminates when the car is first turned on. The light is only a problem if it stays lit for an extended period.

Is it safe to drive whilst the yellow engine symbol is on the dashboard?

If it is the check engine light, Yellow light that looks like a engine, or may say "Check engine", Yes, it is safe to drive until you can get it checked. As long as the vehicle is driving normal. If the light starts flashing, DO NOT DRIVE it. A flashing check engine light means a misfire and could cause a fire due to raw fuel going down the exhaust into the cat converters.

My dashboard light of a cog with exclamation mark in has come on what does it mean

This is NOT a Tyre pressure sensor warning!
Don't know why people post this when they haven't got the foggiest idea.
It is a fault associated with the drivetrain which includes from the injectors on the engine to the transmission and possibly just a sensor malfunction.
There are multiple errors possible with this fault.
Requires a diagnostic OBD2 port analysis of the ECU to clear the fault codes and further analysis.

Spanner showing on dash when engine running vauxhall vectra c

VECTRA CAR WITH SPANNER WARNING LIGHT This Vauxhall Vectra car with spanner warning light illuminates or flashes yellow. Light will illuminate for around 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on. If the fault light illuminates whilst the engine is running, this signifies a fault within the engine or gearbox electronics system. The system will switch to emergency mode where fuel consumption may increase and the vehicles drivability reduced. A Vauxhall workshop must be consulted. If the light flashes whilst the engine is running, this signifies a fault within the electronic immobiliser system and the engine will not be able to be restarted.

Emission warnig light on

Check Engine Light
The fault codes are cleared after the problem has been rectified and the engine has been started 5-10 times.
Service Interval Reminder Lights
The on-board computer is used to evaluate mileage, average engine speed and engine and coolant temperatures as well as other computer input factors that determine maintenance intervals. There are 5 green, a yellow and a red LED used to remind the driver of oil changes and other maintenance services.
The green LED'S will be illuminated when the ignition is in the ON position and the engine OFF. There will not be as many green LED'S illuminated when the maintenance time gets closer. A yellow LED that is illuminated when the engine is running, will indicate maintenance is now due. The red LED will be illuminated when the service interval has been exceeded by approximately 1000 miles. This is the computers way of saying this is your last warning.
There is a service interval reset tool manufactured by the Assenmacher Tool Company (tool 62-1-100). This tool is used to reset BMW 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder vehicles with the aid of an additional adapter tool.
  1. Locate the diagnostic connector near the thermostat housing.
  2. Plug the special reset tool into the diagnostic connector and place the ignition switch in the ON position.
  3. Depress the reset button on the tool until all 5 green LED'S are illuminated, showing that the reset has completed.

The check engine light is on whilst driving full time

The Four Most Common Check Engine Light Scenarios and What to Do:

The Check Engine Light turns on and off or flickers.
If the Check Engine Light comes on in the city but goes off on the freeway, then the fault is present during city driving conditions. Pay attention to whether or not the vehicle runs or drives any differently when the Check Engine Light illuminates. If vehicle performance does change, drive the car as little as possible and take it to be checked by a service professional as soon as possible. If there is no change in vehicle performance, you can drive home, but have it inspected as soon as possible. In this condition, you run a risk of the vehicle dying or not starting.

The Check Engine Light comes on and stays on.
If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

The Check Engine Light illuminates, stays on, and there are performance problems.
This means that a vital component of your emission control and engine management system has a serious problem. It usually involves a component or system needed for the vehicle to run at all. In most cases, drive the vehicle as little as possible. In many cases, the vehicle is not safe to drive at all -it could stop or stall out at any moment. It is best to pull over to a safe place and have the vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for a thorough inspection and repair.

The Check Engine Light light comes on and blinks in a steady pattern while driving.
Don't confuse this steady pulsing of the Check Engine Light light (usually one or more flashes per second) with a flicker (see above). The Check Engine Light may stay on steadily or it may flash when the vehicle is accelerated. This is very serious. There is a severe failure of the emission control system that is causing the engine to misfire to the point that the catalytic converter is damaged each time the Check Engine Light flashes. It may mean that the catalytic converter is overheating to the point that it will glow red or, in extreme cases, start a fire on the underside of the vehicle. Immediately pull over to a safe place and have your vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for repair. Vehicles can be severely damaged and even destroyed by fire if this condition is ignored for too long.

I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Reverse lights staying lit while driving

There is a switch on the transmission that is stuck. When the switch is depressed it will send a signal to illuminate the reverse lights, and when the switch gets stuck, the reverse lights stay lit. Clean the switch and the issue will be resolved.

Yellow engine light went on. What does this mean?

Hi there,

The yellow/orange Engine Check Light is an indicator that your vehicle's computer has detected an abnormality within the engine's electronics or emission system.

Sometimes it can be a one-off abnormality, which eventually rectifies itself within 40 drive cycles.

However, if the Engine light remains lit, then this is an indication of something more concerning (but not necessarily serious).

If it does remain lit when driving, then you should have your local Jaguar service agent scan the computer for "trouble codes", which will quickly identify the component and/or location of the problem.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,
