Question about Toshiba Tecra M4 Tablet PC

Tablet PC screen salvage for use as an input device?

I have a Toshiba Tecra M4 which no longer works. It doesn't even get passed bios boot-up before lines jarble the screen and then it locks up. The certified Toshiba repair store confirmed my suspicion that it's a video card / motherboard issue. The tablet is passed its warranty and I cannot afford to replace it.

I want to salvage the screen as an external input device for my desktop PC, i.e., a graphics pad. I would be interested in a solution that allows use as a second monitor at the same time so I have the same video feedback while drawing as I did with my tablet, but I would be content with wacom-type functionality as well.

I need direction for the disassembly, ''reassembly'' to the PC, and what software tweaks I would have to make to my regular desktop Windows XP in order to use the salvaged tablet PC screen as an input device.

I would also accept a Linux solution.

I installed windows xp on my toshiba tecra m4. How stylus pen works?

Toshiba Tecra M4-S435 is Tablet PC. Windows XP (Profession) has no option of touch screen.
In order to use the feature, you need to install Windows XP Tablet PC Edition or you may install Windows 7, which supports this feature and you would definately be able to use stylus and touch screen, as I have installed Windows 7 and its working fine with all the drivers etc.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

I replaced my Toshiba Tecra M4 tablet CMOS battery and I am still getting the error why is this and how do I fix it? I cant get passed the CMOS error when I boot the computer.

When you replace the CMOS battery, you must wait about 10 minutes with the old battery removed, before fitting the new one (if you had a problem with the error message before) - when you fit the new battery, plug the tablet in and don't turn it on - this will give the new battery a chance to power up all of the CMOS on the board and settle down. Then turn it on, wait for the error message about the date and time being wrong, set the time correctly and the problem has gone.

Tecra M4-S435 Won't Boot

The GPU graphics chip fails a lot in this model. It usually means a motherboard replacement. I've had it fixed 4 times at a cost of $600 each time at a authorized repair center but it reoccurs a year after. The GPU fan doesn't come on enough to cool the graphics chip so it fires or gets unseated.
