    it says card error

I have the same problem. The camera will work with a new card. Everything is ok unless my computer writes to the card while viewing or editing the pictures. Then the camera says "card error" when the card is inserted. Attempts to format the card fail with the camera displaying "card error". The card continues to work in the PC, however.

card error. need to format but do not know how

  • Anonymous Apr 27, 2008

I' get the same problem as following.
I've got 3 SM cards, the original Olympus one of 16 MB and 2 of 128MB from cheap providers, all of 3 worked for years but I was mainly using the 2 cards of 128.
Few months ago it complains on 1 of the 128 Mb card about problem.
Indeed, even on the computer there was reading problem, I formatted it from the computer and so far it was OK. It was the first technical problem I had with the camera.
Now we just went for a trip, the camera was OK but decided to exchange the card to prevent problem... and then after gently taking off the current card and inserting a new one .. card error with request to format it...
The camera format is unefficient, sams message for all 3 cards while there is no problem to read them from the computer.
As summary the camera looks dead :o(((

If any one has a solution ...

If a different card works, then you may actually need to format the card, see other postings or the manual.  The behavior of the card on your computer and in the camera is 2 different things. If you get the same Format message on multiple cards that have been working just fine, read on to see what worked for me.  I read on this forum and started with the easiest possible solutions. First of all I have 3 cards, 2 almost new, that had all been working fine.  Camera gave me the Format message on all 3. Because I am on a mac I always have to pull the card out and use a reader to download so I think that is more wear and tear on the card housing than for most people.  And recently I had been doing a lot of shooting and downloading.
I tried changing batteries, didn't cure.  Then I wrapped thin cotton fabric around card, inserted it, pulled it out (with great difficulty).  Now NOTHING worked, no response from camera at all.  I figured I really broke it now.
I used an eraser on the card contacts, still no response from camera. In try-anything mode, I changed back to the original set of batteries.  Now it all worked correctly.
Who knows?  The other set of batteries I had inserted was rechargeables that were fully charged but I hadn't used them in the camera for a long time.  My daughter has been using them in her gameboy. Maybe their lifespan is compromised.  I had only recently switched batteries when this problem occurred, having exhausted a set of lithiums and switched to alkalines because that's all I had on hand.

YOu might have a bent pin in the camera memory slot. Try the SM card (has finger contacts instead of pins), not the CF (prone to bend pins due to design) if it is a dual format camera.

My camers says file error everytime i turn the camera on i cant uplod, take or look through the picture, please help??

Take your card out of the camera and put it in a computer, If you can see the pictures copy them then format the card.

If you can't see any pictures try to use a free recovery software like Recuva (just google it to find where to download). Once the pictures recovered, format your card.

It the camera still shows file error, the card is certainly damaged.

I wud like 2 format another memory card in my qv-r61 but wen i put the card in i can get nothing onscreen to set it up any ideas? it is a Fuji memory card and when put in the camera all i have got onscreen...

Hi, have you tried using your computer to format the memory card, what you need to do is put your memory card into a memory card reader then wait a minute then open up my computer then locate the memory card then right click on it with the right button on the mouse then choose format and format it to fat32 then try it in your camera and it should then be working.

if you have been using a memory card in the camera and still have it then put this in the memory card reader and go to my computer and then right click on the memory card and select properties and have a look at what format that memory card is, and if its anything other than fat32 write down what it is.
Then put the new memory card into your card reader and goto my computer then right click with the mouse then choose format and then choose to format it to the same type as the other memory card thay you know works in the camera, once you have done this the memory card should work in the camera with no problems.

until you have formatted the memory card to the correct type it wont be recognised by your camera so give it a try what i said and you should find you will have no more problems ok.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

File errors
Download the english manual version pdf file and open with adobe reader go to page 84.
When you upload a file that is not taken by this camera to the removable disk, the [File Error!] message will be displayed on the LCD monitor in the play mode, and nothing is displayed in the THUMBNAIL mode.

Make sure that the memory card is formated in the camera not the memory card reader on the computer. Make sure you save your edited files in jpeg file format. Avi for movies. The manual makes it sound like the camera will not read altered files or files not taken by the camera itself. edited files are not files taken by the camera. Good luck I hope this helps.

Memeory card error

many users have the same doubt. as per canons manual:
if any error is displayed when using your memory card do a low level formating of memory card.
but what to do for pictures in it? get a memory card reader from market. its very cheap. its also advisable to use memory card reader to transfer your photos rather than using direct connectiin to computer. bcz any lekage current from computer may damage the camera in some way.
after doing a low level formating then transfer photos inside memory card from system, put it in ur camera, then enjoy.
hope you are clear with your problem. please give a feedback.

Memory Card Error

Do not ever format a card.,any card via a computer That does it in. For camera use it will not be recognised. Put the card in the card reader and if there is anything at all on it delete it. Try to reformat in the camera again- failing that -new card.

Memory Card Error

try another laptop (friend's)..I suspect yours has a NTFS hard drive format while the card has a FAT type format. You can see which type by starting defrag and reading screen.

System error

Check for bent pins in the card compartment - put a flashlight into it and check to see if there are any out of line. Next get another SD card that you know is good. Take batteries out of the camera for an hour, put the new card in and turn the camera on. If it doesn't work do the same just don't put a card in. If you were sharing card between cameras I'd recommend REFORMATING the card in the camera it's to be used in, before trying to take pix. I would format the card on your Computer and again in your camera BEFORE you use it and it should be fine. Your card can get corrupted if you interupt the camera when it's trying to write to the card. Corrupted card can be fixed by formating (on PC) but remember formating erases data. There is specialist software availalbe to recover/repair corrupted cards of all types. Do a search on google/yahoo/ Be sure your dials are set at a detent. Not between letters. Take out the battery, wait a few days then put it in. If you can go to the menus and look for the reset and do the reset. Be sure you have a good compatible card in it and if nothing stops the error message look up Nikon service and arrange to send it in to be fixed. They also clean the camera and load the latest software when they fix it. I guess you do not have a warranty?
