Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Disc Read Error

Ok... So my Xbox generally works fine, with the exception of occasional freezing and ghost images on th screen. When I got Halo 3, I was so excited. Me and my brother started campaign and played through two levels when we got the disc error message. We tried loading the third level again, but the same problem occured. Some of the multiplayer maps don't load either. So we figured we would trade in the disc to see if that was the problem, and it turns out that it wasn't. At this point, we can still play... but whether or not any of the levels load is now random. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. It's causing me to get alot of penalties in matchmaking though. Snowbound and Narrows are the only maps that load 100% of the time. What in the world is wrong with my box?

i have the exact same problem with my xbox 360 and i'm trying to find a way to fix it

Here's my encounter. I first got Halo 3 when it came out. I have an xbox 360 elite and have had no problems with it. I beat through the campaign with no problems. The first time i got the disc read message was a couple days later when i tried the forge mode, the map loaded then when i went to begin it gave me the disc read error. Everytime i tried it again it would do the same thing until i turned the console off than back on. I figured it was ok after that, a week later i went back and when to play the campaign and in between every level i got the message. I would try again and for countless times after that it would do the same thing until i turned it off and back on again. It seemed it would work for half an hour from when the console was turned on. At this point i had no idea many others were having the same problem and the disc did have a few minor scratches on it so i figured one of those scratches just happened to be in the wrong place and the game was useless. I bought a second copy a couple days ago, played it and it has the exact same problems. I logged on the internet and saw everybody else's similar problems and i screamed because the game came to over $90. I then did switched profiles....same thing so i went to my memory to delete all my halo 3 data incase it was corrupt from my previous game. When i went into memory halo 3 didn't even appear under games yet when i played it all my levels i had beat were still there. I came to the conclusion that because the game was in mint condition halo 3 screws up your xbox in one way or another. I believe it has to do with the hard drive itself, i think somehow the data you save goes corrupt and stays that way and there is no way you yourself can fix it. I got on the phone with a microsoft rep and he took me through a bunch of troubleshooting, i found out that the game works out without my hard drive plugged in. I was write, so after two hours he told me to try it again and if the problem occured again to call a reference number and they may (but it wasn't likely) repair my console. I did so, played again and it did the same thing... called back and talked to a different guy and now they are gonna repair my console. Quite the story, i hope what they do helps and if so thank you microsoft. I was just wondering if anybody else has sent their console in and do they fix it properly, and if they do, if i play enough halo 3 once i get it back, will it cause the same problem in my hard drive again?

Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lights problem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get this problem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks to get your Xbox back. Xbox 360 will only read halo !!

That is an odd problem. It sounds like you maay need to change the laser or the dvd rom assembly if its reading only one game, yet all the games it wont read are working ok in another console. If i was you id simply replace the DVD rom drive, making sure its the same version as the original from the unit. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Cant play campaign

Halo 3 is buggy disk , I have 2 brand new copys of halo 3 for testing repaired drives
and found that of all the 360 I repair, benq drives will read 99% of the time the hitachi
seem too slow on the seek time to get a
lock/read resulting in a dirty disk error.

Halo 3 does not play on all 360
its just a picky disk .There seem to
be two xboxs thoes that will load halo 3
and thoes that will not.

Sorry this may not be very helpful

Hwhat does it mean when it wont read one game but will read another

it means the one that wont read is scratched, dirty or defective, my advice is to clean it if its dirty, get a cd repair kit if its scratched or take it back if its defective.

Can't run Halo 3 at all.

Next to cleaning your CD good, try also getting the laser eye cleaned as well, this might help. Also, if the disk is too scratched up then it will not read it, the scratches might be too deep.

How can i fix my broken halo 3 disc over the computer or and on the xbox 360 can you help please the thing i dont get is that i can play xbox online for halo 3 but i cant play campian at all can you help...

First get some disc cleaner, and clean any scratches. If that doesn't work, the only way fix your disc would be to mod your 360, and to use a program called xbox backup creator, to make a backup of your original copy. If you go this route, get a Samsung SH-D162C, or SH-D162A if you have SATA. This is the only dvd-rom that can be altered to read 360 discs, and you might need it if your 360 drive can't read all of the Halo disc. Note: for the obvious reasons you run a high risk of getting booted from xbox live, I got booted and never once played any of my backups online.
