Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
About 2 months ago I replaced my lamp. Just recently I noticed that in the center portion of the screen the light is yellow. It makes whites look yellowed, skin tones are off, blue sky is yellowed etc... A narrow strip along the top, sides and bottom of the screen seems to be ok. I attempted many adjustments to the video settings but they were all to no avail.
You have a defective light engine and no matter what you personally do to the TV, it will not correct the problem. Hitachi is aware of this and you will need to call their customer relations department (not their customer service). Their Customer Relations Department # is 800-654-7013. When you first call them and tell them that you have a bad light engine, they will act like they've never heard of it but they will give you names of certified techs in your area. Once the tech comes out and confirms the problem, call Hitachi back, at the number I've listed above, and all of the sudden, they will know about the problem...imagine that! The will call and confirm the problem with the dealer and will ship a brand new light engine to the dealer to come out and install.
Here's the kicker...there's always a kicker. Hitachi will cover the part ($1500) but will ask you to cover the install. Our install cost us $400. This was worth it to us being that we paid $3600 for this TV 3 years ago and it's been a great TV up until we had the light engine issue. Once this part was replaced, the TV looks brand new. Again, everyone I've communicated with online has had the same or a very similar problema and have messed around with the TV on their own or bought a new bulb. This will not fix the problem. It is the light engine that will have to be replaced and Hitachi has been good about not giving to much of a hassle over it IF you have a certified tech come out and confirm it! Good Luck!

It's not the lamp, its the light engine. These are two completley different parts. You should not have to take the set to a certified dealer. They can come to your home and all you have to do is turn on the set and they can diagnois the problem. Changing out the lamp will not make a difference. The light engine is a defective part that Hitachi is currently replacing for free if the dealer says that's the problem.

I now have the EXACT same problem after replacing my lamp with a Hitachi original about 2-3 months ago. My set is a 50VS810 purchased a little over 2 years ago. I suppose I'll take it down to their Authorized Dealer for confirmation that it is not just some internal contamination. Let me know if you have any success getting it fixed by Hitachi. You can email me at [email protected]
Thanks for the posting!
Jim
Everything worked out as varian stated it would go.
TV is fixed.

I have an LG LCD television which has developed a dark shadow on the right of the picture, it is not visible in bright pictures eg white background etc. I recently went into a Panasonic tv shop and told them of my problem, they seem to think it is either a soldering joint, or a bulb gone which cannot be replaced. They advised me to contact LG as the TV was only 18 months old when this appeared (out of year's warranty). LG have replied but not very helpful, they can recommend engineers but I will have to pay.
