Surface scratches to LCD screen

I have come home from work to find a series of surface scratches on my LCD  screen....just deep enough to be felt with a fingernail being lightly brushed over them, but at the same time, very visible when the TV is off (ie screen is black).

Because I know they are there, I can also see one or two of them when the background is white (TV on).

I have googled for help to remove them and have come across the "white eraser" method or "petroleum jelly" application.

Have done neither as yet, would appreciate your help and advice please?

Kind Regards

Ive tried the vaseline method (petroleum jelly) and you must be sure not to apply too much on the screen or else it will smudge around the scratch and it is hard to buff out, but if you fill the scratch in and wipe off the excess around it, then it should be barely visible.

My flat screen is scratched how can I fix it

It is very difficult to polish the scratches out. If you apply too much pressure to the surface of the screen you will crack the glass surface and the LCD element, and you will then need to replace the LCD screen.

Clean the surface of the LCD screen with a barely damp cloth.
  • Step 2 Dry the screen with a soft, clean cloth.
  • Step 3 Rub a generous amount of petroleum jelly into the scratch using a cotton swab. The petroleum jelly should fill in the scratch and remain there.
  • Step 4 Immediately wipe the excess petroleum jelly off of the screen with a soft cloth being careful to leave some petroleum jelly inside the scratch to act as a patch or filler.

  • This scratch repair method is effective because of optical density. The optical density of petroleum jelly matches the plastic, LCD screen coating more closely than that of air.
  • To avoid future scratches or gouges, you might consider purchasing a LCD screen protector. These screen protectors are generally made of a thin, plastic film and affix to the screen without adhesives. Not only can they protect against scratches, but they also keep the screen free of dirt, oil and dust while simultaneously reducing glare.
  • When wiping the screen as described Step 4, avoid pressing too hard or you will inadvertently remove the petroleum jelly from inside the scratch.
  • Using petroleum jelly to fill a scratch on your LCD screen could void your screen's warranty. If you are concerned about warranty issues, consult your user's manual for more information.

Sony hc-32 touch screen won't work

When touch switches become nonworking then mostly its cause of connecting flexible ribbon wires between LCD board and camcorder main board that got cracked so touch buttons signal does not go to camcorder system control. Need to replace that flexible wire by qualified camera tech.

Very rare cases I found touch buttons layer that is pasted and part of LCD becomes defective, do you see hard or deep scratch on LCD surface? if yes, then LCD screen will be replaced because touch button array is damaged.

    Scratch on plasma screen

You should be able to make the scratch become invisible using a white eraser. A pink one will work, but the white one works better. Just simply erase the scratch, it may take awhile, but your basically buffing the surface down even again making the scratch un-noticeable.

How do I fix a deep scratch on the screen, it is a wide scratch, maybe like a small toothpik size, when black background is on, it shows as a white scratch, I have tried vasoline, but it does not fill in...

Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do. The LCD surface itself has been physically damaged and no longer works properly. This isn't simply a scratch. The only solution is to replace the display panel, and they are nearly impossible to find unless you are an authorized servicer working on a warranty repair. There are companies that sell parts removed from sets, but most sets are junked because of bad displays. Since the display is the single most expensive part, if you can find one it may not cost much more just to replace the TV. There's always a sale going on somewhere, and many online vendors as well.

Surface scratches in my black bathroom sinks

You might try a vehicle buffer on them. If that doesn't work you will probably have to use a porcelain touch up kit that can be bought at your local hardware store.

My plasma tv has several really deep scratches on the screen, how can i go about repairing this?

There are liquid solutions for filling LCD scratches
it's basically a plastic material that fills the scratch.

Big scratches are more of a problem. I am assuming that your
Plasma screen has a glass surface and that it's only scratched,
not physically broken. You may also try glass polishing compounds
for filling and polishing chipped windshields. Be careful, try it on a small spot first to make sure that you don't dissolve any plastic anti-reflection coatings etc.

    Good luck
