Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera

Problem Hi, I just recently purchased a DSC-W50 camera off ebay and I google the battery type and found that this camera uses Sony NP-BG1. I bought the battery from an ebay seller and received it today. I inserted it into the battery slot and I got a message stating " for use with compatible battery only" . I charged it for 2 hours and I got the same message. has anyone had this type of thing happen? Could it be the battery or am I using the wrong battery type. Please advise. Thanks

I contacted the seller and will be returning the battery for another one. I have an aftermarket charger that is specifically for the NP-BG1 battery. Does that make a difference? I didn't think it would. Anyhow ima wait till I get the replacement and see if I still have the same problem.

hi i have the same problem bought from e-bay too (did you sell me yours?) 'for use with compatible battery only' i have bought another sony battery but it turns it self off before show the error above - please help

I bought a SONY DSC-S750 3 months ago. Since last week, when i turn the camera on, appears the message "for use with compatible battery only". The battery came with the camera. The camera was bought in a big store in Philadelphia. I WILL NEVER BUY A SONY CAMERA AGAIN. I already tried to reset, tried to remove the battery and the problem persists.

Well, i just chcked my camera, and you have the right type....it could be the battery is just bad, though i don't know how to check this without trying it in another camera.

I have inherited a sony DSC-w100 8.1 megapix 3x zoom camera and have no charger or how to charge what code for the charger please I have 2 batteries sony G type NP-BG1 help please

I found a lot of chargers for this battery (and batteries too) by searching Amazon for "NP-BG1 charger". There are also cheap universal chargers, which will charge any of the small lithium batteries found in cameras and phones, on Amazon or eBay.

The DSC-W55 does not contain any charging circuitry. Connecting the camera to a computer makes the battery drain faster, since the camera must use juice communicating with the computer (even if only to say it has nothing to say). You need to use the supplied battery charger to charge the battery.

Lcd will not turn on on a DSC-W50.

1. Ensure that you are using either Battery Model # NP-BG1 or NP-FG1 with the Camera.

2. Try using different Battery to determine whether the issue is with the Camera or with the Battery.

3. Try to Power reset the Camera by removing the battery from the Camera and inserting it after 1 minute.

If the issue still persists with different battery also then Service may requires to resolve it.

For use with compatible battery only

1. Ensure that you are using either Battery Model # NP-BG1 or NP-FG1 with the Camera.

2. Try Initializing the Camera as follow (Initializing the Camera will reset the settings of the Camera to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camera):

a) Press the Menu button on the Camera.

b) Then, select the SETUP menu and select the SETUP 1 option of the Camera.

c) Then, select the Initialize option to OK.

3. If issue persists try Power reset the Camera by removing the battery from the Camera and inserting it after 1 minute.

If the issue still persists then Service may requires to resolve it.
