Re: I have a Canon PowerShot A590 - still pictures are...
Did you change your camera video's settings? There is an option where you can set it to a lower definition, like for videos. To change, choose the camera setting "Video" Then, Press the Left Or Right Arrows.
try pressing the sideways button when in movie mode, it will change the movie setting from compact, which makes it blurry, to normaltry pressing the sideways button when in movie mode, it will change the movie setting from compact, which makes it blurry, to normal

Don't use regular alkaline batteries (even though you can...) It's a pain to splurge for the more expensive lithium or photo-specific batteries, but they do last. I take A LOT of pictures with my A590, and can usually get several hundred shots out of a set of good batteries. Try Energizer's web site for a coupon, sometimes they have them available.
If you make sure that the memory card is properly seated and the batteries in and the battery door properly closed, then it should power up. If still no success, it may be the micro switch that closes when the battery door is closed.
I opened "System" then click Hardware, click Device manager, from the "Action", click "scan for hardware changes". It's done, the computer recognized it. thanks also..
But good news is it is manufac fault and CANON will do it FREE just call them even if u are out of warranty , they have issued service advisory for such faults just call them in ur region and they will send a postage paid envelope for u
hello again after researching i did find out that there is about a 3 second delay if using the flash option did any of your delays happen when not using the flash ? also does this happen when using the camera in auto mode ? turning the knob on the top to the green auto mode i'm thinking it also could have to do with your shutter speed or try going to the menu and changing the shutter speed to a faster speed your self then taking pictures in av or tv mode. here's a comment from a review on the PowerShot a590 that might help.
Camera performance is very good. The PowerShot A590 is ready to shoot after a 1.2 second delay -- pretty snappy. Focus speeds were very good, even in low light situations. Shutter lag wasn't a problem, and shot-to-shot delays were minimal, except when you're using the flash, which is slow to charge. The camera can shoot continuously at 1.5 frames/second until your (high speed) memory card is full. The A590's battery life is 10% better than its predecessors, and is well above average for its class. The camera supports the USB 2.0 High Speed standard, for fast data transfer to a Mac or PC.
and if you still have the problem with out the flash then the only other solution is a faster flash memory card there's cards made just for digital camera's that store pictures and format quicker.
hope this helps your enjoy your camera.

I think the issue is that you have just chosen the compact video setting. To change it go to video mode and scroll the wheel to normal mode...thats it..
