Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook

1 Answer

Memory/RAM I wanted to put 1GB RAM into my Laptop, I tried it once before and put it in the slot under the laptop. It worked for a few hours but I was later forced to reboot the system. Should I try putting it into the slot again or should I replace the original 256 with the 1GB? Its the right memory I have double checked that already. Also my laptops kinda loud you can hear it working and its loud for the Libary, I was wondering if there is anyway to reduce it? The fan is clean. Thanks

You are probably not using the correct type of memory, if you just bought a 1 gb stick, Laptops are pretty picky about what memory they use, check the Kingston Memory configurator to find out the max installable mem and which mem is correct to use.  http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/default.asp  use the Memory search feature on the right of the page to get you started

Toshiba satellite is a seperate section in the configurator, so choose that line to get more choices

New memory nx6110

Did you remove and replace 1 or 2 RAM modules? There are 2 modules installed. One is internal and one is external. Both MUST BE OF THE SAME DENSITY OR THE LAPTOP WILL NOT WORK. You will need a second 1GB RAM Module, then use the link below to download the service manual for your laptop. Accessing the internal RAM module is fairly easy...follow the directions and you will have not problems. You CAN remove the internal one and operate the device on the single 1GB module, but I would recommend if you do that, you put the 1GB module in the internal slot. Then later, if you wish, you can add more RAM without additional disassembly. By doing this you will at least double your RAM from the 512MB you had to !GB. You can double it again with the second RAM Module to 2GB later.

RK549AA-ABA SR2170NX problem: i think my second slot for ram is no good. i'm supposed to be able to install 2 gb max . I bought 1gb ram to install in slot # 2 but it doesn't work. can i install...

Is the 1Gb RAM you purchase the same make and speed as the original? If not, they may not be compatible with each other or the new RAM module may be faulty.
Try removing the RAM from slot 1 and insert the new 1Gb RAM module in slot and boot up your laptop to test the new 1GB RAM module.
Installing a single 2Gb RAM module should work.

Is it possible to install high desnsity memory RAM on a T42

The T42 can support up to 2 Gb of RAM.
The laptop comes with 512Mb of RAM under the keyboard and a spare memory slot on the bottom of the laptop.
To install 2Gb of RAM put 1Gb in the memory slot under the kerboard - need to remove the old RAM and put the other 1Gb in the memory on the bottom of the laptop

T42 Memory specs.
  • 64-bit Double Data Rate (DDR) non-parity SDRAM memory
  • PC2700 at 333MHz
  • Two 200 pin SO-DIMM memory slots, one slot is pre-populated with 256MB or 512MB, leaving one socket available
  • Supports up to two 1GB SDRAM SO DIMMs
  • Supports maximum memory up to 2GB

Adding memory to a a75-s211

How much memory did it have before you removed the 256Mb RAM?
If it had 756Mb RAM then the memory in the laptop has 512 Mb plus 256 Mb RAM modules, the 256Mb in the slot you can see and possibly 512Mb in a slot under the keyboard or soldered on the motherboard.
Therefore by removing the 256Mb and replacing with 1Gb memory module will give you a total of 1.5Gb

Adding an additional memory module to laptop...wont start!!!

The problem is that your laptop only supports 2 GB of RAM. If there is not a newer bios allowing more then 2 GB is the max you can go. Since you put the 2 GB in one slot then the other slot will be useless. It wouldn't matter how much you put in the 2nd slot because the bios already says you have 2 GB on board and will not accept anymore. Sorry.

I can't find the second ram slot

Lots of laptops have the second slot under the keyboard. If you are adventurous take the keyboard off and look in there.

IBM ThinkPad T40 2GB Max RAM

The T40 has two ram slots, you can put a 1g chip in each totaling 2g. If the chip will remove, then it is changeable. Vista needs a minimum of 256 to run, so, when you change BOTH chips to equal 2g it will probably read 1.744g, or it may read the full 2g. If it only reads 1g, then the second slot under keyboard may have malfunctioned. It could also be that the 256 chip is bad and your really only running 512 now. With all that said, in order to achieve 2g, you will need to put a 1g chip in each slot.
