I had the same problem with mine (same model number). The top shelf started having a pretty serious ice build up and the lower shelves were not as cold as they had been. We defrosted by pulling out a button that did a defrost cycle, but after that it never got as cold again (hovers around 20 F) amd the hiss is not as pronounced when the door closes.
Has anyone figured out what this might be?
And can someone explain the quick freeze?
An upright freezer that is not frost free will have the coils in the shelves (shelves are non-removeable) and that is where the frost will buildup. If your model is like this then it will have to be defrosted periodically. If your not sure then give me the entire model # from the sticker inside the freezer and I will look it up for you.
Hi Dale Dibb, thank you for your inquiry!
I understand that the food inside of your Frigidaire freezer is getting frost on the inside of the packages. I would recommend turning the temperature up inside of your freezer. Additionally moisture inside of the package would cause frost to develop on the inside of the food packages.
Please assure that all possible moisture has been removed out of the food packages prior to placing the items inside of the freezer. If there is anything else that I can help you with, please feel free to reconnect! -Matt

I have an Imperial freezer which I'm told is or was made by Amana. The Model # is UL2494ECW8. It is not self defrosting and I have to defrost it a couple of times a year. Today I noticed the food on the bottom was not frreezing and starting to defrost. The frost buildup was severe so I defrosted it and it seems to be running kind of warm. It has a quick freeze switch and I'm trying that now. I think the door seal is bad becuase it used to hiss when I closed the door, creating a vacuum. It doesn't do that anymore. What do you think?
I know that this post is about a year old, but I have an Imperial freezer as well and it is doing the same exact thing. The top shelf is about 4-5 inches thick with frost but the food toward the bottom of the freezer is no longer freezing. Were you able to find a solution to this problem?
