I had the ipod attached, recharging the battery. I was also loading some minor programming update on the computer and rebooted the system before disconnecting the ipod. Now the computer does not recognize the ipod attached to the USB port. The ipod is frozen on "CONNECTED - Eject before disconnected." I failed to eject before rebooting

Actually this issue shouldn't really be that difficult to resolve. :) A simple reset should take care of it being frozen on the connected screen. Below I have posted a step by step on resetting an iPod.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

As soon as you see the apple icon appear disconnect the iPod from your computer. After the iPod completely loads. reconnect it to make sure it is connecting and loading correctly. If this does not resolve your issue for any reason please do let me know. I have a few other options we could attempt. :) and the feed back is always good. It lets me know if I am actually helping people with they're issue's or not.

My ipod not recognized by itunes in order to reinstall the software

Connections b> The USB cable must be securely connected both to the iPod and to the selected USB port on the computer. Reattach the cable at both ends, and click "Computer" in the start menu to see if the iPod is shown connected to the drive for that USB port. b> Drivers b> If the drivers of the computer responsible for the USB interface are out of date, malfunctioning or incorrectly installed, that may also cause the iPod to not be recognized by the computer. If this is the case, the device may not appear in iTunes and there may be an exclamation point next to the device in Device Manager. b> Software b> The latest version of iTunes is recommended to best communicate with the various models of iPod. Go to the iTunes website or click "Help" and "Check for Updates" in iTunes to install the most recent update. Further, the computer must be running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 for PCs, or OS X v.10.4.11 or later for Macs. b> Battery b> The iPod's battery must have sufficient charge to be recognized in iTunes; charge it either via USB connection or another power source if the indicator shows a low battery. Once the battery has charged, try to connect the iPod to the computer via USB cable again.

My iPod is not recognized by Windows (XP SP3). The message says that "the USB device attached has malfunctioned" the troubleshooter says no driver is present. I have uninstall the mass storge...

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. The "the USB device attached has malfunctioned" is a common issue of a usb device that is connected to the computer. If you can still use the ipod properly it seems that there is something that has been detect by windows that is malfunctioning on the iPod when you connect it. There are only 3 possible reasons. First is the cable that you are using and the other one is the port on the ipod where you connect the usb cable and the 3rd is the motherboard needs to be rebooted. You can try to change the usb cable or try to use the steps below and see if you will encounter the same error.
Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. Yes that's it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don't really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power. First to explain, the motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be "rebooted" also because something can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices! So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.
If you are using a laptop you need to remove the battery to drain the power on the motherboard. Please let me know what happen so that we can continue troubleshooting.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks

My ipod is frozen. "Connected eject before disconnected."

Hello, if it's still frozen try holding the power button and the center of the scroll wheel, or the power button and the top of the scroll wheel until it restarts, then try re-connecting it again.

Ipod nano 8GB 3rd generation FROZEN!

Try resetting the ipod while its connected to the computer by holding both the menu and center button at the same time for 6-10 seconds until you see an apple appear on the screen. You may need to repeat the reset. If this fails your looking at a hardware issue most likely. Good Luck.
