How does one measure the rice and water amounts in an older Hitachi chime rice maker

Good morning to you
Did the rice cooker not have a measuring cup, where the water: rice ratio was given?
My experience has tought me that you cannot go very wrong with two cups of water for one cup of rice.
no matter where the rice is cooked, in a rice cooker, a saucepan, the micro,
try this and as time goes you will get it perfect taking into account the type of rice.

I don't have the cup that goes with my Hitachi rice cooker. Using a regular cup, how much water for each cup of rice?

I suggest that after you wash the rice on your rice cooker bowl level it and measure the height of your rice using your hand finger ( middle finger ) then that is also the water you need. but put the water slowly to maintain the level of the rice because this is also you guide to level it. I mean. 1. wash your rice. 2. level it ( the rice ) inside the bowl of rice cooker and measure the height of your rice by using your hand finger ( the middle finger ) and remember it. 3.put the water slowly, and your hand finger should be from the top of your rice to measure the height of your water. I hope you understand me!\ just try it because this is the way that how to cook the rice even any kind of bowl.

Lost manual; what is ratio of rice to water? thanks!

All right, this can be a bit confusing. IF you still have the cup that came with your Rice Cooker, use it to measure your rice. Then, inside the cooker there are lines showing how much water to add based on how many of the Zojirushi measuring cups you used of rice. THAT's simple.
IF you DON'T still have your Rice Maker measuring cup you will have to use a 3/4 cup U.S measuring cup. This equals the same amount as the rice cooker cup. For each 3/4 cup of rice you use, add that many cups of water. If you use 3/4 cups of rice twice, then add water to the 2 line.
In other words, a rice cooker measuring cup equals 3/4 cup of regular U.S measuring cups.
Hope I didn't confuse this too much. I hope this helps and if it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution. Good luck and happy cooking!

I have a rice cooker with no instructions and need to know how much water per cup of rice

I have access to the Australian Owners Manual for this model if it would help.

It says:
Add water using the following ratios:
White Rice = 1cup water : 1cup rice
Brown Rice = 11⁄2 cups water : 1cup rice

Rice Measurements

You use one cup of water for each cup of uncooked rice. You end up with about 2 cups of cooked rice for every cup of uncooked rice. Different varieties, such as brown rice, take more water, up to 2 cups of water per cup of uncooked rice. If the resulting rice is too dry, you can add more water and restart the cooker.

I am not sure, but I believe that 16 cups refers to cooked rice, so you should not put more than 8 cups of uncooked rice in the cooker.

Lost my instruction book...want instructions to make rice in cooker...ratio of rice and water please

I have a Toastmaster 3 cup rice cooker but think the ratio would be the same.
Long grain white rice - 2 rice measuring cups - water to 2 cup line = 8 (1/2 cup) servings
3 rice measuring cups - water to 3 cup line = 12 (1/2 cup) servings

Long grain brown rice - 1 1/2 Rice measuring cups - water to 3 cup line - 6 (1/2 cup) servings

For fluffy rice: After cooker shuts off, allow rice to stand for approx. 15 minutes, covered, before serving.

Hope this helps

Amount of Rice

The Japanese measuring cup size of 200 ml works fine for my Hitachi RD-5083 and likely will work for most rice cookers. The standard US cup is 237 ml.
