Monitor malfunction--back lighting?

I have a Dell E153FPb 15" flat screen monitor.  At first, when I turned on the computer, I thought I had a completely dark screen, but after checking all the connections and on the advice of my brother, I tried shining a bright light directly on the monitor and I can just make out (with a lot of eye strain) what is there.  My brother says this means the back lighting is shot and I need to open the monitor to see what sort of light I need to replace it.  Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to open the thing, though I've unplugged it and unscrewed it from its base.  Any ideas?
Thanks.

To open the monitor you need some flathead screwdrivers to pry the case apart after you remove the base from the back. The prying part is always scarey but you should be able to spot connection points after the first few separate. Best place to start is on top or on one of the sides and be careful, you dont want to start at the bottom for fear of damaging the controls. Do not put the screwdrivers too far in. As for the hole with the padlock signs, those are for security cables to lock equipment to a desk with. Now as for actual repair I havent quite gotten that far yet with it.

To open, remove base.place monitor lcd side up, the silver screen frame comes off,try opening above logo, get it started and it comes right off.it's your inverter, the thingy that your backlights plug into.

Usually with this type of fault it is the cap on the inverter board gone low in value causing a small fuse (next to it) to go open circuit.

The padlock sign is for an anti theft device.

To open the monitor, pay-pal me $6.00 and I will email you with instructions.

The Dell E153FPb monitor works, but has a very dark screen. the picture is not clear at all, but i can see a small portion of it as if a bulb may be out.

Hello Breon, hi, most likely that the LCD back light is going bad, or the inverter board is giving up, or could be loose screws, this needs to be checked and diagnose.

Pleasec look through my albums so you will know what to look for.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Dell e152FPB LCD monitor backlight power problem

Check the four transistors (c5707/5706) in the inverter section for shorts, board looks like this? http://www.lcdrepair.us/e152-e153fpb-inverter-power.html

Screen is blank

Those models are made by BenQ. Their notariety is bad solder connections that cause the drive transistors to overheat. Sometimes it just blows fuse pf751(2 amp); other times it will damage a transistor or two (2sc5707 or 5706 x 4).
Be sure to resolder the output transformer leads.

Blank screen

Hi,
Disconnect the monitor , from the computer, switch the monitor on , if you have some kind of Dell self test box running on the screen. The monitor is OK . The problem can be with the video card or resolution settings.

Also, try connectin the old monitor you had hooked up with the system to check ,if you see anything

Thanks
