Hp dv4000 won't turn on, no lights on- totally dead
first check fuse in plug. if good then check power adaptor, even if its lit up it still can be faulty or use a voltmeter to check that you are getting continuous current. if good it gets harder youll have to open it up and check the fuse inside it dont look like a normal fuse its small. its at the back next to were you plug in the charger should say f. check picture. its not for youre model but just a demonstration. hope this helps. j.oates

Hello, i have hp pavillion 4 laptop but when i power it the caps lock and num lock keys keeps blinking and the display screen is also blank.
This is a very common problem & it affects the Hp dv2000 , dv4000 , dv6000 , dv9000 series of laptops . In almost all cases this is caused by the video card overheating . There are 2 options , one is replace the motherboard ( expensive ) , the other is performing a " reflow " similar to how xbox 360's & ps3's are repaired . After the " reflow " you should replace the thermal paste with Arctic Silver #5 & I clean out the heatsink & fan before replacing them . Good Luck if you attempt the 2nd solution , I have done it about 20 times so far only 1 failure .

Replacing hp dv4000 motherboard
Hi I suggest you go to the HP site at the link below and select your particular version and then seek out the manual for it.
But system boards are very expensive and tricky to replace. if you are not experienced in laptop repairs then forget it. It's really not worth the effort of replacing the system board unless you can get a good used one.
Just buy another laptop and get your data transferred. Go for a used Dell D610. Excellent machines, about 4 years old now but I sell loads and NEVER had a problem. Good build quality, unlike most of todays laptops

I have HP DV4000 has a bright problem but cant get fn keys to work
Reinstall all drivers for your laptop from the HP.Com website. If the function keys still don't work, you may have a defective keyboard.

Turn the laptop off, then take the laptop keyboard off (usually takes 1 screw - bottom of case, and a few sliders, top of keyboard). And then there will be a couple of thin cables which are connected to the motherboard. There is a sliding connector which holds these on. Push this up, slide the cable in, puch it back down. Do for both cables if you have 2 (keyboard and tracking pad/pointing stick). Reinstall keyboard and try it out.

If that doesn't fix it, replace the keyboard with one from ebay.

No sound at all... When i play a game or anything it doesn't have sounds at all, and when i try to use windows media player i get this message: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. I tried going to the computer makers website and get a new sounds driver, i installed it and all that, still doesn't work, im getting really annoyed, Could someone help me? Thank you in advance.
