Question about Garmin Nuvi 600 Car GPS Receiver
I have a Garmin Nuvi 600 sat nav preloaded with maps of UK and Ireland. I have bought an SD card (city Navigator Europe NT for Benelux and France) and want to install it. On the leaflet with the card it says: using preprogrammed memory cards to transfer MapSource data overwrites the programmed data. To prevent losing any preprogrammed data, use a blank memory card to transfer MaspSource data. If you choose to overwrite a pregrogrammed card, Garmin will not be able to replace or recover the lost data.
If I put this SD card into my machine will I lose the UK mapping data?
No. They are refering to maps sent from the computer to the Garmin device. Maps are not transferred off the SD card to the unit. Simply insert the SD card into the device and the Garmin will read the maps from the card.

SOURCE: New Maps - Can't update unit
The new maps will be unlocked to your GPS using the code Garmin supplied you.
You will have to add these maps to a second SD card if your present card is full, or else purchase a larger card. Since all the Mapsource NT 2008 Europe maps are 1,395MB in size, you'll need to purchase at least a 2GB SD card.
