Most often this is a sign of the impeller failing or a bearing. More often than not the impeller fails and makes the noise due to cavitation of water.
IT is usually cheaper to replace the impeller than to replace the pump head or whole pump. If you are mechanically inclined, the replacement parts will come with a pretty detailed set of instruction on how to repair the pump you might so it yourself.

Friend had similar problem... Clean filter, added earth, primed pump and sound went away and had great flow... If not, possible impeller problem..

Normally, the filter does not make any noises! The noise is generally from the pump. Since I am not sure what you have on the pool, to be able to find the issue, we will need a bit more information.

Do you have a seperate pool pump and filter? The pump will have a motor and some have a debris basket in front of the motor. If this is where the noise is coming from, you may want to return/exchange the pump if it is only two days old!! When you turn on the system, do you see water moving to the pump, air in the basket, or is the motor getting hot to the touch?

If you have a seperate filter from the pump, what is the pressure gauge reading on the top? If you have one, check it when the noise starts. If it is higher than it was when working properly, you have a blockage somewhere from the filter to the return line. If lower, then you may a small leak, generally o-rings, and will need to replace what is bad.

If the motor on the pump is making the noise, then it can either have debris in the Impeller area, or it is going bad. Hope this helps! If you can let us know what pump and flter you have, we may be able to find out what is going on.

i recently had the same problem of a loud screeching noise. my unit was installed new in 1999 and has worked well up to this point.

when i disassembled the tub water filter i found the filter was heavily clogged (it is supposed to be self cleaning), and i also found glass shards from a broken wine glass. i further disassembled the plastic housing under the filter ( held in place by three torx drive screws ) which covers the pump impeller and holds the lower spray arm. while i did not find any blockage in the pump area, and no abnormal sound when i turned the impeller by hand, i did find that one of the pump impeller vanes has a small chip which probably makes the impeller unbalanced resulting in more than normal vibration. i cleaned the water filter and reassembled the parts and the original screeching noise is now gone.
