I recently bought the Acer Aspire AS3694. It has windows vista on it but only 512mb ram which clearly isn't enough how much would it cost to buy more ram - about 2gb maybe? And also how much do computer whizz's normally charge to install it for you?

Re: More ram for my laptop
Never, NEVER buy a computer that is going to run Vista with less than 1Gig minimum!
2 Gigs of RAM is recommended for Vista.
To check on prices and the type check some online sites that sell memory
Most laptops have a removable door or hatch on the bottom where you can
access the memory very easily. The modules easily clip in or out but
never use force! (RTFM)
If you take it to someone, they'd probably charge $50 for labour, plus parts and the job takes 5 minutes.
Easily do it yourself, or find a teenager who's good with computers. Son, nephew, neighbour perhaps?
Before buying any new modules, check your laptop to see how many slots you have and what type of modules are in there now.
To upgrade to 2 Gig, you will have to buy 2 new 1Gig modules, There's a 2Gig kit (1Gigx2) listed at one site for $80.
You would remove you current memory and install the 2 new 1Gig modules. Sell your 512 or make a keychain from it.

It is cause by a very serious virus called "Conflicker"
Try to Do a upgrade of 7 (Free upgrade from Microsoft).
The upgrade does not delete your files, it should detect and erase viruses and the startup is quicker. (22 secs on my Dell Inspiron 2200 with 512MB RAM!!!)
Currently, the only other solution is to do a complete re-install.
yes it definitly will since you recently bought it,all operating systems will be supported by your laptop that were launched after 1998,so if you just bought a computer it definitly will have windows vista,if it has windows vista it will support windows xp,cauz vista is just a higher user interface than xp,in laymans terms it just needs a higher amount of ram and a higher processor, any old p3 or higher can run xp
The maximum RAM the can be installed is 2GB. The memory type you would need is DDR2 SDRAM - 533.0 MHz.If you'd like to know more about your computer here is a link to the specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/acer-aspire-3680-2249/4507-3121_7-32416895.html?tag=mncol;rnav
I think the computer actually said you were running low on Virtual Memory ... memory is the physical ram installed in your machine ... virtual memory is an area of hard drive the computer uses to store data when in runs out of "real" memory .....hard drive space is nothing to do with memory.
Ok, that got that cleared up :-) .... now the quickest way to get over low virtual memory problems is to install more RAM. For XP you should really have a minimum of 512mb .... 1gb is probably optimum. For Vista you should really have a minimum of 2gb.
So if your laptop has less than 512mb(xp) or 2gb(vista), the first thing to do would be to upgrade the memory.
Virtual memory problems should only ever crop up when you are running multiple applications .... so just try and keep the amount of programs you have running to a minimum. Instead of just minimizing programs, try to close them down to save memory.

You need to determine if you have DDR or DDRII. And then determine if you have one stick of 512, or if you have 2 sticks of 256. Once you know this information, visit your local Best Buy or purchase somewhere online, a memory upgrade. Such as 2 sticks at 512mb for 1 gig total. Assuming you have two memory slots, should have anyway.
DDRII is fairly cheap right now, be a good time to upgrade. DDR on the other hand, is still a little more expensive.
