Disc tray won't stay closed.

When i put dvd in tray then close, the tray opens again, will not stay closed. If i put a dvd in tray then turn power off it closes. When i turn the power back on the tray remains closed but the machine says there is no disc. Product is a pioneer dvd recorder DVR 540HS purchased 12/2006. HDD works as norm just the disc tray. Have had no previous problems, was working fine 2 days ago. I have 2 children aged 4 1/2 & 2 1/2 years (not sure if they have done something to it). I live in NSW Australia. Thanks in advance. Jay.

I fixed this by jerking the tray gently. Someone jammed my tray and it skipped a few gear teeth. It seemed like the machine couldn't pull it in far enough to reach its preset position. So I let it close and when it was almost closed, I gently jerked it out to skip the gear teeth back into alignment. It is kind of tricky because the motor will just reverse instead of skipping teeth (you'll hear the plastic clicking when it skips). Perhaps unplug it and slowly push it in manually then **** it back out softly. Just be gentle. Good luck.

The dvd tray on my Sony BDV-E780W won't stay closed. Whenever I turn it on the tray opens and wont close from the remote or device.

Have you checked to see if it is off track? Sometimes when these machines get bumpbed, dropped, or fall they can jump track. You have to take the cover off and inspect to see if it is off track when it closes and opens. It should go all the way back on the track when it closes. Be careful not to shock yourself. If it is on when you do it and your hand touches the metal parts inside you can get seriously burned or shocked.

Magnavox ZC320MW8 door stays open

f the tray won't open or close properly, check the belt for dirt or wear. Then check the tray for misalignment. If needed, remove, clean, lubricate, and reinstall the tray following the instructions in the owner's manual.
God bless you

Hi, the dvd on my recorder stayes ejected? It will close but then will eject straight away? What can I do? Cheers.

Hello,

The fault is not from the disc, it is from the player.

The disc tray is actually malfunctioning. Which is as a result of a fault on the mechanism that is controlling the opening and closing of the disc tray.

Another fault might be that the button that controls the disc tray might be stuck.

test if it is the button.
  1. Unplug the player from the power source,
  2. plug it back,
  3. turn it on,
if it opens without you pressing the open button, then the fault is from the button.

check it for any irregularity.

  1. get the appropriate screwdriver,
  2. open the cover of the player,
  3. carefully force the front control panel open from the sides,
  4. then check for any damages,
  5. change the open button and it will be okay again.
test if it is the disc tray
press the open button, if it opens closes continuously.
then there is a problem with the mechanism that controls the open and close of the disc tray.

to fix this,

  1. Get the appropriate screwdriver,
  2. open the back cover of the player,
  3. look to the left side of the player and you will see a mechanism that controls the tray,
  4. change the mechanism with a new one.
after doing that, the player will be in good condition again.

take care

Tray will not stay closed

This fault usually happens if the disc being read is not compatible with the player's firmware.
If discs are burnt from a computer, or copies, this can happen.
Does it do this with all DVD's?
Are you using commercial retail DVD's?
Otherwise something else is telling the player 'No Disk'.
Try a disc-based lens cleaner as laser may be grubby.
Or the laser diode could be defective.

Xbox does not read discs.

Getting to the dashboard screen is a good thing but still cannot rule out a bad circuit board or power supply. All the symptoms point to a bad DVD drive but the opening/closing by itself do indicate a problem with the microprocessor. Can you turn the power on and off with the small button?? If not, would definitely suspect bad board.
