I am having a problem with my Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 81 plasma cutter, it is fitted with a SL100 Machine torch and bolted onto a Torchmate CNC table. The cut it makes is beveled in one direction (not like when it cuts holes were the bevel is expected). This bevel is approx 15-18 degrees. I have done everything I can think of and I am at a loss. I have:
Lecovert, cheers but no luck I have done all these things more than a dozen times. After stricpping the machine to bits and reassembling, I then then started testing by removing parts or interchanging if possible. I have found that the arc voltage controller is most likely responsible as the problem. When it is disconected from the system and I trick it into running semi-manually the bevel is reduced to about 3degrees, which may be just an alignment problem with the torch and the cut surface. I will go on to cheching the alighment and try and get a new Arc voltage controller for the Torchmate CNC side of things.
Worked on units for several years,my first thought was torch consumables, then torch itself,so here we go.make sure all the consumables are exact for the torch, make sure all parts are brand new,(all parts, that way we can elimenate that part of trouble shooting).check that the ground is tight on the unit and work peice. When you bought the new torch head did you also buy the lead to the head?If not possible that could be the problem.
I know this thread is a little old but I am experiencing the exact same problem and I also have the cutmaster 81 (bought in 2010) and a torchmate 4X8 CNC table and have not been able to figure out why it is cutting a beveled angle but it is very frustrating. I also am using the SL100 machine torch, and I borrowed one from a friend with the exact same issue. I thought that maybe there was an obstruction in the torch that may be pushing the air to one side. Not the case, but I am at a loss and no one seems to have any good ideas. Curious if you found the arc voltage controller was the issue? Any info would be a great help!

Update - I have gone back to the beginning and I am pretending that I have not done anything to try and rectify the machine. I am going to take it to bits and pieces and start from scratch with the manuals from Torchmate and see what happens. As I go I will slowy connect in the bits and pieces and run it untill I find a problem and hopfully this will get me moving in the right direction.
but still any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
