Vgp-drwbx1 - DVD not recognised

I have a Sony Vaio with the above DVD burner.  Until a few days ago all was fine but now it won't recognise a new DVD, so I can't burn anything.  When I input a new DVD, the computer seems to think that it is a CD (the standard window pops up, asking me what to do with this CD) but "my computer" shows no available space etc.  I have tried at least 10 DVDs out of the same batch.  I am most definitely not a computer expert, so I have no idea what to do next. Help!

If those are all the same batch and brand of dvd, try them in another computer and/or try a different brand in yours.

What software are you using for burning?

Keyboard suddenly began typing randomly.

My friend, you can still have a hardware problem even though there has been no 'change in hardware'.

How so?

Your keyboard is a hardware item and ... well ... they are not created equal. Some last a long time while others, well, they don't last all that long. Your keyboard is equipped with more than 100 mechanical switchs that, when monentarily closed, send an instruction to a processor to do something. Based on what you are telling me, you have some switches that are stuck closed (turned on), even though perhaps, temporarly.

To prove or disprove this, try another keyboard on your computer.

If yours is a wireless or IR, there is that additionally possibility of interferance either from reflection or from other devices or sources.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop with XP. My DVD-CD

Have you tried burning a CD in the new drive? Because the drive is a DVD it will always be recognised as a DVD, but should work perfectly well with CDs both playing and recording.

The DVD drive on my toshiba satellite pro L300 wont recognise discs. It was working fine up until a few days ago and i cant find the cause.

Try running a cleaning disc in your drive as the laser might just be dusty. If that doesn't help then you will most likely need to replace the drive
