Whirlpool washer ultimate care II sometimes does not spin.

Sometimes Whirlpool washer ultimate care II sometimes does not spin during spin cycle. I would make sound as if something is happening but would not spin.

Then if I run the cycle again it would sometimes start to work.

What could it be?
I read that it could be Lid switch. But if it was lid switch, it would not even make sound as if it is 'trying' to spin!

    Thanks Vic,
    What can I do here?
I can do electric repairs if I know what to do.
Do I need to replace it? If so, where do I get it?

    regards

    Thanks.
It is whirlpool Ultimate care II

I opened it and I saw that driver coupler is OK.
I am suspecting the clutch system however I could not open it due to lack of tool and knowledge on how to open it.

HI It sounds like the spin basket drive is going bad. If it was the lid switch, you would get no sound. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Do you think it needs a lid switch or basket drive?

Do you hear any noise while it is trying to spin?

Please get me the model # and I can get you part #'s

Now it sounds like the basket drive. To replace it, you need to remove the inner tub and there is a spanner nut holding that. Then you would need to remove the motor and transmission to get to the basket drive. It is a bit of a job.

Will not spin

The final cycle of any washing machine, including Whirlpool units, is the spin cycle. During this cycle, water is sucked out of the load, preparing the clothes for the dryer. If your spin cycle isn't working properly, your clothes will be extremely wet, which increases the length of the drying process. Troubleshoot, and repair this problem yourself to save money

Dear shelldon39, Fri 2-20-2009 9:24pm EST (USA)

Some machines will shut down during the spin cycle as a precaution to prevent damage!

They will do this if you overload the washer with clothes and/or use too much detergent!

If this doesn't help please get back to me with more details!

Sounds like the clutch is slipping but sometime catching. Or maybe the transmission is almost gone. Is there a burning smell? If so, probably clutch.
