Compressor doesn't turn on

Compressor won't turn on, but the unit will. About 5 years old and always has worked great until now. The dehumidifier will turn on but not put any water in the bucket.

Hi... my dehumidifier compressor will not turn on, the fan runs fine and the time 2 hr/4hr cycles work, but the compressor wont kick on, the filter is clean and the unit is no more than 2 yrs old. Any...

Sounds like the compressor is inoperative. Most, if not all new units have no means of recharging the freon if it leaks out. If the coils are not cooling, the compressor is not operating and the unit will not dehumidify.

My dehumidifier smells like its burning when I turn it on. It is about 5 years old, does this mean I need a new one?

Judy, the fan motor or the compressor motor may be failing. It's cheaper and less of a hassle, to replace a 5 year old unit, than it is to repair it.

Hope this helped you.

Dehumidifier trips breaker

compressor problem. Talked with coworker who had the same problem. He brought his in for repair and was told the compressor needed to be replaced. The cost of compressor close to the cost of a new unit so time for a new one.

Year 2005 cycling fan and compressor

Your unit is probably operating in defrost mode. When you use a dehumidifier in a cold room, the condensing coils can freeze water. The unit senses this and thus stops the compressor until the water frozen on the coils melts. Then it resumes its cycle. This is a problem you will have during the winter months. It makes the operation of the unit inefficient, but this is otherwise normal behavior.

That part is a thermal protector. If you can't find it at Radio Shack they should be able to direct you to an appropriate electronics store.

some of these units have a 5 year compressor warranty on them including labor worth calling sears and seeing if it does have the 5 year on the sealed system
