SOURCE: Memory card error - can't format card

Can you use the card in another device? Can you access the card un a USB card reader? If so, it is possible that the camera cannot handle a card that big. You would need to check the manual to see that it can handle a 4Gb card.

SOURCE: Canon powershot SD1200 IS says Memory Card Error

You probably just need to format the card in the camera. This will completely erase it so download any pictures you want to save first.

SOURCE: memory card error powershot Sd800 IS

Hello,

Take out your memory card from the camera and then inspect a small or tiny switch. This is the card lock. You need to move it the other way around to enable write back on the memory card.

Hope this helps you out.

You need to go to the menu screen, scroll over to the tools option, scroll down to format and format the memory card. I just had this same problem and this is what worked for us!

Error message: communication error

Hi,
Googling to solve the same problem with a Power Shot G12, I found a manual under ManualOwl -- on p.194 it says:
"Communication error: images could not be transferred to the computer or printed due to the large amount of images (aprox. 1000) stored on the memory card. Use a commercially available USB card reader to transfer the images. Insert the memory into the printer's card slot to print."
This worked for me. Hope it does the same for you.

I purchased a Canon PowerShot s510,I inserted the memory card but keeps saying memory error, could it be the card

It could be. Look at the menus or check your manual to find the 'Format' option. Select it and re-format the card. This will remove any problem with the card set up. If the card has been in a computer it may have been cleared or formatted there. In which case the memory card has been formatted in a way unsuitable for the camera to read it. Re-formatting will help you to eliminate the card as the cause of the problem.

I keep getting an insufficient memory error when recording video on my Canon camera. I have a 4GB Micro SDHC card. It'll be completely empty and I'll get the error after shooting 2 minutes. Even when I...

Instead of deleting the content on the card, format it in the camera and see if it works. Also, have you tried another card to see if the problem is with the card or with the camera?

Welcome to Fixya

Looks like you havea already have a defective memory card. Try to insert a differnet memory card and see if it will give you the same error.

It says memory card error.i took out the sd card and it was not locked and it still says memory card locked. i formated the card also and it still says the same thing.

How big is its capacity ? Some device can only support memory card at certain maximum capacity, if you inserted card with higher capacity it wouldn't able to read it and it would say "card error".
Try to insert another card with lower capacity. i.e. if you have got "card error" notification for inserting 4 Gb memory card, try to insert 2 Gb card

Hope this help, and if you think its helpful RATE please.
